Ichinoya is a famous Unagi restaurant in Kawagoe. We came all the way from Tokyo one day to have try it, as a friend of mine lives in Saitama so it was convenient for him to meet us. The ambiance is like you are in someone’s family home, and the walls are decorated with the autographs of all the famous Japanese celebrities who have visited. The unagi was very good, albeit a little pricey (about 4000-6000 depending on how many pieces you want). However, according to my Japanese friends that I went with, they said that the pieces aren’t as thick as they used to be and the price has gone up. Regardless, if you’re headed to Kawagoe, it’s definitely worth trying this place if you like unagi, although if you live in Tokyo, you can find other just as good and equally famous places in the city – so no need to come this far just to eat unagi. Do not forget to make a...

This was a restaurant in Kawagoe that was recommended to us by a local friend. It specializes in eel dishes, and it was an excellent option to visit if you are fond of that delicate dish. I decided to go for the Special Kabayaki Course, which includes sashimi, grilled liver, liver soup, kabayaki, umaki, vinegared food, pickled food and dessert. The price is steep, but well worth it. Every dish contributes to an unforgettable experience. If you visit Kawagoe, I would highly recommend this restaurant, which is cozy and very traditionally laid out. The service was friendly...

Overall experience was worth it and service was good. Professional, friendly, and attentive staff.

Had a bone in my unagi that stuck into my gum which was unpleasant. Other than that, the unagi was really soft.. wont really feel the bones (unless it pierced into your gum). The tamago was really nice. Surprisingly i find the rice was really tasty. Haha.

Be prepared to spend a fortune! It cost about 5-8k yen per person. Was definitely a once in a lifetime thing for me. If i had to eat it again, would do it in local stores which would...
