Hands down, one my favorite places I’ve been to on our trip—A true mom and pop dining experience. The kindness, attention to detail, top quality food were all 5 ⭐️. Yes, we had to wait a little while for our food— but the tea they served while we waited was warm and tasty. And we could see that mom and pop were busy getting our food ready— so it was no bother to sit and enjoy the ambience of their space.
[side note: There’s a one-star ⭐️review that was left while we were sitting there, saying they don’t serve foreigners and were rude— that wasn’t the case… after our group of four sat down, mom and pop started turning away locals and foreigners alike. We believe it was because it was getting close to closing time and/or they didn’t have enough fresh fish to serve others. That reviewer took it personally, when they got turned away, but our impression was that the intention was...
Read moreVisited as a detour from Fushimi Inari, and I must say, it's worth making the detour.
There's a lunch menu option of rice bowls for 700 yen, or the shop combo for 800 yen. Shop combo has a selection of roasted fish, simmered fish, or sashimi. I picked the simmered fish, and it was very nicely flavored and tender. For 800 yen, it came with a variety of other ingredients that I considered very worth it.
After that, I decided to add on some sushi: Tai, Buri, and Hirame. The wasabi was a bit much for me, but the flavor of the fish still came through, and the slices were quite thick as well! 3 of those big pieces cost me 750 yen.
Overall, an excellent place to go out of your way to eat at. However, be prepared to wait because the old man does all the cooking, so if there are a lot of customers, it will take time to get to your order. No regrets waiting...
Read moreWow. Amazing. I am not often surprised by food, but this was exceptional. There was more fish on the nigiri than rice. Variety of the fish might be a bit limited (10-15 different types), but they were all very fresh and amazing. We had 2 boards of nigiri (16 pieces), tempura, sake and beer which cost less than 5000 Yen. Nothing fancy, artificial or westernized. Owners are such a lovely couple who represents all the best things about japanese hospitality and culture. They can only speak vert little english, but we somehow managed to communicate. We visited the place with our 9 month old baby. The owners were very kind and attentive and played with her when she kept waving at them. They prepared apples for her and also gave her a small present. It was a great...
