This guest house is brand new and clean - very stylish and comfortable. There is a coffee shop in the first level nice for relaxing after a long day of walking around Kyoto. SO is located very close to the Fushimiinari Shrine, very famous in Japan and seen in a lot of pictures with the Orange Torii tunnels running up and down the mountain. Very close to this guesthouse (2 min walk) is also the Keihan Inari Station which is very convenient to get to downtown Kyoto only a few stops away. You can also be in Uji (famous for Tea) in a few minutes or in Osaka on the same train line in about 30 minutes. Also near SO, just past the Keihan Inari station is the local JR station. This train takes you directly to Kyoto station a few minutes away too or to Nara in the other direction.
Overall, SO was an ideal base location for seeing Kyoto and gave a much better flavor of everyday Kyoto living than being near the Main station, since regular Japanese people live around there. The owners of SO are very nice local people who have lived in the neighborhood for generations. Try the "Japanese Chinese" restaurant right across the street called Meiyouken if you are looking for a quick bite. Also lots of places to eat noodles and other...
Read moreThe location was great as it was a 5 minute walk from the train station and relatively close to Fushimi Inari! The neighborhood is very beautiful and quiet. Rooms were spacious enough to put suitcases on the sides (~3 suitcases at least) however there wasn’t a lot of space underneath the beds. Beds were super comfortable and the best part of the hotel was the bathroom area. Loved the ofuro as we took advantage of it, and the water pressure was amazing. So many amenities were provided and they provided Muji products which was a plus. You are given your own washer/dryer with tide pods provided for each night and this was a life saver. There’s a nice restaurant downstairs that serves until late.
However, there were a few downsides which the main one was that there wasn’t a check in desk. This was understandable because of the buildings architecture. We had very big luggages that we could not forward to the hotel, and since we were at the top floor of the building it was not ideal since my sister is pregnant. If you do not receive a code in your email you can still self check in.
I would definitely come back here again in my next...
Read moreLocation is great if you want to be close to Senbon Tori, so you can wake up early and beat the heavy crowds. It is also super close to the metro line that takes you directly to down town. Room was very clean and spacious. The room has a private restroom and shower and a washer/dryer. Dryer is not that great but it helped. Room had an AC/ Heater and many amenities. One thing I didnt like is that they did not have areas to hang a wet towel or jackets. It has a very small closet and only one bench to place a luggage. Overall I recommend it and its very peaceful also there is a small cafe on the...
