I have never left a negative review before, but this time I am truly upset, and I must expose the fraud and racial discrimination against non-Japanese speakers at this restaurant (with evidence). So, if you are not Japanese, I hope you'll take a few minutes to read this review before visiting.
We were traveling from Canada and ordered domestic Black Angus beef for both myself and my father. The beef I received was fine (see picture one), but what my father received was completely different in color and texture (see picture two). We tried to inform the waiter that there was a mistake, but they refused to acknowledge it, insisting it was the same kind of beef. (Please review the first two photos and judge for yourself.) After discussing with another server, although she still insisted it was the same beef, she agreed to replace my father's beef (see picture three). After about fifteen minutes, when we asked why the food hadn't been served yet, they finally brought out the beef, but we were already full. However, this time the beef was much better, wasn't it? But they still refused to admit it.
If you think the story ends here, you're wrong. When I received the bill, if my father hadn't checked it, I would have even paid for the replacement beef... It wasn't until we communicated with the server again that this mistake was corrected(see picture 4).
I was already angry when I went to pay, but I still told my father and mother that as long as there was any form of proactive apology during my checkout process, I would not pursue today's events further, nor would I leave a Google review. (Because I work as a restaurant server in Canada, I don't want to make things difficult for my colleagues. But obviously, I overestimated their professionalism. We didn't receive any form of apology until we left the restaurant.
The above is the fraud of this restaurant that I want to expose. Although there are suspicions, it cannot directly prove the discrimination of this restaurant, so please continue reading.
After leaving the restaurant, we communicated with a couple dining at the same time as us. They said that while waiting for their meal, a white couple was allowed to enter the store to wait, but they were asked to wait outside, and it was very cold outside.
In summary, we are not unreasonable customers. We actually gave the servers many opportunities during our meal, but unfortunately, they did not seize them.
Dining time was March 27,...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Gyukatsu Kyoto, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. This hidden gem in the heart of the city offers a culinary experience that’s both authentic and unforgettable, especially for lovers of gyukatsu.
From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with the warm hospitality that Japan is known for. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, providing the perfect setting for a relaxed meal after exploring the bustling streets of Kyoto.
But the star of the show is undoubtedly the sirloin katsu. Each bite is a revelation. The beef is of the highest quality—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. It’s lightly breaded and fried to perfection, creating a delicate crust that complements the rich, savory meat inside. The katsu is served with a variety of dipping sauces, allowing you to customize each bite to your taste. I particularly loved the wasabi soy sauce, which added a nice kick to the dish.
One of the unique aspects of Gyukatsu Kyoto is that you can cook your katsu to your preferred doneness at the table. It’s a fun and interactive experience that makes the meal even more special. I opted to sear mine lightly on the outside, keeping the center perfectly rare—an absolute delight!
The side dishes were equally impressive, from the crisp, fresh salad to the comforting miso soup. The rice was fluffy and perfectly cooked, rounding out the meal beautifully.
Overall, Gyukatsu Kyoto offers an exceptional gyukatsu experience that I would recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto. Whether you’re a seasoned katsu enthusiast or trying it for the first time, this restaurant will exceed your expectations. I can’t wait to return and savor their sirloin...
Read moreIf you are in Kyoto and looking for a meal that is both incredibly delicious and a unique dining experience, look no further than Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu. From the moment you step inside, you know you're in for a treat, but the food itself is on another level. This was, without a doubt, one of the most memorable meals I've had. The star of the show is, of course, the gyukatsu (beef cutlet). I had the pleasure of trying both the Wagyu and the sirloin, and both were absolutely spectacular. The beef arrives perfectly breaded in a light, crispy panko crust, rare on the inside. You then get to cook each slice to your desired doneness on a personal stone grill, which is a fantastic touch. The Wagyu was everything you could hope for—exquisitely marbled, tender, and it simply melted in my mouth. The sirloin was equally impressive, with a rich, beefy flavor that was truly satisfying. What elevates the entire experience, however, are the incredible dipping sauces and condiments. Their special soy sauce has a depth of flavor that perfectly complements the beef without overpowering it. Paired with a little wasabi, it's a perfect bite. The variety of other dipping options, from a peppery sauce to a savory curry dip, allows you to customize every single bite, making the meal an interactive and constantly evolving flavor journey. If you're in Kyoto, Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu is an absolute must-visit. It's more than just a meal; it's an experience that delights all the senses. The quality of the meat is top-tier, the sauces are divine, and the entire concept is brilliantly executed. I'm already dreaming of...
