anpeiji — Restaurant in Kyoto

In summary, the team at anpeiji created an evening that was more special than we ever could have imagined! Using the Michelin guide, we chose this restaurant to celebrate our honeymoon and a birthday. The service was amazing starting from being greeted at the door. The space was elegant and modern with an open kitchen to watch the master chefs at work. We ordered the wine pairing and are so glad we did, really excellent choices.

On to the food - The dishes were the most delicious and beautiful we have ever eaten… any description will not do justice to how incredible this food was. Look at the pictures to get an idea. Standouts included the seabass and beef dishes, as well as the lemon tart dessert. We had a conversation with the French-trained Japanese chef, anpeiji, at the end of the meal and it was clear how much time and effort goes into his creations.

We truly had a phenomenal experience at anpeiji. The Chef's background in French and Japanese Cuisine shine through unique courses evocative on both cultures' love of beauty, locality, and seasonality in food. From the appetizers all the way to the desserts, every course was unique, unexpected, and delicious. On top of the world class food, I was in a group of four tourists from America, and the chef and server were both incredibly warm and totally capable of conversing in English as needed.

If you are visiting Kyoto and have interest in Michelin quality food, it is a short bus or taxi away from the downtown area, but well...

We had an amazing experience on the evening of January 31st. It was one of the best experience we had in a Michelin star restaurant.

And it was a real pleasure to spend this evening at Anpeiji. It was also amazing to meet with the chef at the end (who, by the way, speaks French). They even accompanied us all the outside to our taxi.
