Arashiyama Sakura — Restaurant in Kyoto

Chanced upon Arashimaya Sakura and it is the highlight of our Kyoto trip.

A 6 star experience that’s so accessible!

Toshi san and his chef truly embraces 一期一會ichigo ichie spirit that makes a life changing meal.

Every dish is created with so much care and love and they take time to explain every detail. Every drink from the water to the pickles is either made in-house or from carefully curated sources.

The location is a little off the main track but the trip is well worth it. So scenic to take a walk past the Togetsu bridge in the day. We were also offered help to call a transport should we need.

Besides the meal we had was so worth it with sake pairings offered.

Quiet restaulant locating Arashiyama 嵐山, west side of Kyoto, 30 min taxi from Kyoto station Reservation is required. 4-6 members seem to be good for counter seat Dishes are extremely nice, beatiful and tasty. You can find traditional and unique vegitables of Kyoto in beginig snow crab cooctail . Taste of hard clam, shrimp, seaweed, and transpalent soup are complemented in one black bowl. Hassun, 八寸, is full of condensed works, cheeze with small fish and blue pepper, duck roast, spanish mackerel in Saikyo-zuke, mackerel sushi in bamboo leaf, small squid salad with vinegar and miso, and so on. Freshly cooked rice was amazing because every grain were separatedly standing in clay pot, not pasty. Green tea 抹茶 and Dorayaki were desert. Recomended Nihonshu, Sake, is sweet and fruity. My family had a wonderful time dining here at Arashiyama Sakura. We had Kyoto Kaiseki and it was absolutely wonderful: we loved especially the new year’s soup and the mini Osechi!!! We were lucky to be there around New Year’s Day to taste such delicious and beautiful Osechi food. The fugu sashimi was also excellent too, we all love fugu and didn’t expect to get fugu today, so it was a nice surprise. Ûmeshu my mom and I had was nice too. The restaurant was in a quiet residential area and we got there by cab from our hotel (10 minute ride). I’m so glad that I found this restaurant and reserved it a month ago. Here are some photos.
