A shrine to electricity! Edison (that jerk) and Hertz are immortalized here with their own shrine. My understanding is that this temple was originally dedicated to lightning, but electricity seems to be a natural transition (especially if you want to bring up Topsy the elephant and Edison’s role in her death). Unique shrine worth seeing if you’re close. Within a short walk of where you get off the river boats and boasts a great view of the city.

電気の神様を祀っているということで参拝しました。電気系メーカー務めなのですが、最近トラブル続きでとうとう神頼みですｗ 電電宮は元々は雷の神様を祀っていたのですが、明治に消失したのを昭和31年に電波、電気の神様をまつる神社として再興したそうです。 法輪寺の一角に、小さな鳥居と社が祀られており、会員の企業や個人によって維持されています。会員には大手のテレビ局、電力、通信関係の企業や自衛隊の潜水艦関連の部門が名を連ねており、名簿を見るだけでも面白かったです。 さて、せっかく参拝したので御札やお守りもほしいところ、本当は絵馬を奉納したかったのですが・・・なさそうです。 電電宮の御札やお守りはお寺で買えます。法輪寺境内の寺務所にあります。寺務所の壁には半紙に書かれた願い事が貼られていましたが「システム安定稼働」・・・エンジニアでも神にすがりたくなる心境・・・同感です。 自分は神札とお守りを買いました。ちなみにお守りはmicroSD(16GB)で虚空蔵菩薩のjpeg入ですw

Unique, little shrine in Kyoto that's now well-known. Dedicated to the "God of IT Industry", it has patrons that include Panasonic and Softbank. The most unique aspect is the official omikuji is actually a micro SD card with a surprise stored on it! They originally started offering these in 4GB, and as they keep up with the times, they've upgraded this regularly - now...
