Small but cozy establishment located surreptitiously down a side street. Dropped by on Tuesday at around 2:30 PM and there was no wait.

Quality sushi at a reasonable price. If you're an English speaker there's only two options available - a 10 piece nigiri set menu for 3000+tax, and a deluxe 10 piece nigiri set menu for 4500+tax. Chef speaks a little bit of English but he seemed to appreciate my elementary level Japanese.

We opted for the regular set. All of the fish was very fresh and the nigiri was delicious. Pickled ginger was surprisingly very good. Scallop and mackerel were the standouts. Of others I recall, there was lean tuna, salmon, egg, squid, octopus. Not a huge amount of food but enough to stave...

Azuma Zushi is a small sushi house hidden in a quiet neighborhood in Higashiyama, Kyoto. The family-owned restaurant only has 9 counter seats, making it rather cozy. They only accept cash. Guests who would like to make a reservation must be able to communicate in Japanese. The a la carte menu is only available in Japanese, and most items do not have a fixed price. Sushi variety is reasonable, and the quality is OK. Highlight of the lunch is the freshest fatty tuna sushi. Don't waste money on the...

A small restaurant but absolutely worth the wait. The staff are great, it’s constantly busy and the preset lunch menu was a fantastic way to try a variety of things. The best tuna bowl we have had to date. The quality is fantastic and the price was more than fair. Excellent and my entire family, kids included would go back! The menu is in Japanese, however I used Google Translate to read it and ended up ordering what every other person in the restaurant was having, which was the...

Small restaurant visited mainly by locals. While they have an assortment of sushi in an english menu format, this is the only thing intended for tourists. For the rest, you would need to speak japanese or ask directly for something already visible on the table. Very authentic experience and good product, but can get expensive quite fast, which is definitely something to take into account since they only accept cash.
