Authentic Kyoto Charm with Unmatched Hospitality I had the most wonderful experience at Kyoto Machiya Kamogawa Gardens during a one-night stay with my brother in their traditional Kyoto machiya. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The communication with the staff was seamless, and our host, Tina, was absolutely perfect. Upon check-in, we were treated to a traditional tea ceremony where we learned so much about making matcha—it was an unforgettable and heartfelt introduction to Kyoto’s culture. The accommodations were immaculate, and the onsen was nothing short of spectacular—an incredibly relaxing experience that we wished could have lasted longer. A standout moment was when my brother forgot his phone. By the time we realized it on the Shinkansen, the staff had already reached out multiple times to ensure we could retrieve it. They went above and beyond by arranging to mail the phone to our Tokyo hotel before we left Japan. Additionally, the team provided excellent recommendations for exploring the neighborhood, which added so much depth to our short stay. If you’re looking for an authentic and thoughtful Kyoto experience, I can’t recommend Kyoto Machiya Kamogawa Gardens highly enough. I wish we could have stayed longer! This place truly captures the spirit of Japanese hospitality.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Tsukimi in Kyoto Machiya Kamogawa Gardens, and I can confidently say it's one of the best accommodations I've experienced. The atmosphere is simply enchanting, blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comforts. The house is beautifully designed, offering a serene escape. The attention to detail in the decor truly enhances the overall experience, making you feel immersed in Kyoto's rich cultural heritage. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming, going above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable. They provided us with local recommendations and were always available to answer any questions. I wholeheartedly recommend Kyoto Machiya Kamogawa Gardens to anyone planning a visit to Kyoto. It's a lovely place that captures the essence of the city, making your stay unforgettable. Whether you’re traveling alone or with family, this gem is not to be missed!

Staying at Kyoto Machiya Kamogawa Gardens was truly one of the best parts of our trip to Japan. The townhouse was beautiful—traditional but really comfortable. Everything was super clean and cozy, and it felt like a perfect mix of old Kyoto charm and modern convenience. The private outdoor bath was fantastic. The location was great. It’s right by the Kamogawa River and close to Gion, so we could easily walk to lots of cool spots, restaurants, and shops. Even though it’s in the middle of the city, the place was really quiet and peaceful. It was the perfect place to stay to recharge after reaching the midpoint of our trip. The hosts gave us helpful info and local tips. They put care into making sure we felt at home. We’d 100% stay here again and definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a special and relaxing place to stay in Kyoto.

We stayed at Tsukimi (as a couple) for 4 nights. The neighborhood is very beautiful and super quiet. It is a 20 min walk from the Kyoto central station, and approximately 20 min beautiful walks from any central spot of Kyoto (Shimogyo Ward/Gion etc). Neighborhood has plenty hidden gems, if you roam around you will certainly find some very good local restaurants, coffee shops & stores. The machiya is excellent (modern & traditional blended perfectly together) and very spacious (even for a group of 3). It was the perfect space to return to and relax, after 10-hours of walking & exploration in the perfect city of Kyoto.

Hosts also offered us free Yukatas to wear for as long as we stayed in the Machiya and welcomed us with a Matcha preparation & casual-drinking ceremony.

Fridge was full with beers, water and refreshments.
