Stumbling through the alleys of Kyoto, I found myself lost, until I accidentally walked into what can only be described as the coziest bar in the world, which felt like I stepped into my buddy’s living room.

The owner, an absolute gem of a human, greeted us kindly. After browsing the menu, he whipped up drinks that were more like liquid art—each one felt like a warm hug from the inside out. I’m not sure if it was the sake, the whiskey, or the fact that I had no space to escape, but I was immediately in love with this cozy little nook.

If you’re ever in Kyoto, do yourself a favor: get lost, find this bar, and prepare to be treated like family. I have come to love the Japanese phrase “Ichigo ichie (一期一会), meaning "one time, one meeting," a phrase that emphasizes the unique and irreplaceable nature of every encounter and moment in life. I appreciate each interaction as a one-time-only event and making the most of it.
