This is my first time writting review. We stayed in Japan for 2 weeks and this is the worst restaurant that we visited. We passed this restaurant when were otw to Gion district. It was in the afternoon long after lunch time. After a long walk and we decided to have a break and get some snack. We saw the pizza menu outside and saw this restaurant is empty. When we went in, the waiters stoped us and I told her how many people we are. Supprisingly, she asked us to get back to the entrance again and wait there although we know the restaurant is empty. Nothing french about the restaurant so I dont know why they name it that and although the menu is pizza and pasta no one order that. I dont get the concept and had to ask again whether the pizza menu outside is from this restaurant or not. Finally we sat down and she only gave us the menu. She didnt give us water or towel like she did to other guests! My son had to grab his own water and she just looked when she wanted to use the water container to serve other guests. We then asked she for the water, she asked for how many people? like.. 1st, can she see and count herself? 2nd,she always give water and towel to other guests after they sit and before they are ordering always give water to all guests. Why she didnt do that to us?? I wanted to go out again but I have promised the kids for a break before we continue. We ordered 3 pizza for 5 people (2 adult and 3 small kids), I think thats reasonable for a fast bite/break as we already had our lunch. She looks unhappy with the order, maybe she expect us to order japanese dessert like the rest. But then why promote and had the menu outside. When the pizza comes, it was small for the price and taste was not that amazing. Would be different if we get small pizza but taste good. I saw around, other people who ordered tea and japanese dessert menu, just leave the food untouch. After reading other reviews, now I get why they do not eat it. Its just for picture but not for the taste. Again, I dont get the concept of this restaurant, discriminate guest, do not get good food and bad service. This "FRENCH" restaurant is not...
Read moreService was polite and friendly, however its clear they don't employ enough people, and therefore not really up to Japanese standards particularly when compared with other similar pricd( or cheaper) establishments. We had to get our own refils of water, wait to catch their attention for a second set of cultery etc.
The food- we ordered the fish plate- hands down the worst meal we had in Japan. The texture of the rice wasn't great, miso soup tasteless, fish overdone and hard, pickles weren't flavoursome. Perhaps we should have stuck to the European food. The dessert plate was good, wide variety of desserts which we enjoyed ( although some were more to our liking than others). The macaroon ( tiramisu flavour) however had a terrible chewy texture although the cream was nice. The presentation of all the food was excellent, which made this place all the more...
Read moreOne of the very few places that's open and accepts diners after 7pm in the Yasaka-hill side of Gion. We went for the night view beside this restaurant and stayed for the vegetarian options and the quiet space after a hectic day -- it was almost empty.
Pizza: Why not try what a local pizza is like? Was it the best pizza ever? No. The crust was just okay. Was it delicious? The mochi-like green topping + black sauce was unique and interesting. Was it small? Yes, if you're used to American-serving sizes. We weren't that hungry and had dessert anyway.
Dessert: most of it was good and quite flavorful. I don't like desserts that are too sweet and this was mostly just right except for 1-2 things in it.
Matcha drink: it tasted like a decent cup of hot matcha with the right amount of grassy bitterness that goes well with a...
