Fujii — Restaurant in Kyoto

My husband and I just left Fujii... and debated writing a review. We want to keep it our little secret. Fujii-san is the best kept secret in Kyoto.

When our concierge recommended this restaurant, I searched for reviews and couldn’t find much so we didn’t know what to expect. What a pleasant surprise! We went for lunch and sat at the counter. From our first dish, seacucumber salad to the delicious sweets at the end - everything was Japanese perfection. What made this experience most special was the warmth and care of the chef, which was felt in every dish. This is the best miso soup we have ever had and when we asked about the special ingredients the chef said, “Love is the deciding factor of taste” (Chef translated from Japanese to English for us).

If you want authentic Japanese cuisine, then this is the place. Courses are served in Kaiseki style and the taste of each dish is excellent. Meticulously prepared dishes are pleasing to the eyes and very appetizing. The signature “Taimeshi”(snapper fillets on rice with miso base sauce) was very tasty and satisfying. The tempra of gomatofu(sesame seeds tofu) was delicious, too. The current price of 9800 yen for complete dinner with desert for this quality including tax and service fee nowadays is a very good...
