An absolutely wonderful tea ceremony experience - highly recommend!!
The setting is just off the beautiful Philosopher's Path and tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, with entry to the ceremony room through a peaceful zen garden. Our English-speaking guide was really helpful in showing us the different elements of the tradition and encouraging us to participate as appropriate for tea ceremony guests.
Our tea master was meticulous in her demonstration, and the tea and accompanying sweets were delicious. We were even able to try to make our own cup after the ceremony concluded, followed by the opportunity to ask questions.
We were fortunate to have no other bookings for this time but the maximum they take is 6 so even at full capacity I'm sure this would remain the intimate and authentic experience we had....
Read moreWow, what an experience… it was the absolute highlight of my Kyoto trip. The hosts offer a genuinely authentic Japanese tea ceremony in the prettiest setting. I was lucky to be the only participant, it was very cozy. The interpreter was so helpful explaining all the little details to me. Every step of the way she made sure I had the proper guidance. The tea master was very good at her craft, such a sweet person. I was served good quality matcha from Uji along with dry tea snacks. After the ceremony, they showed me how to prepare my own tea in the traditional way. I really recommend this to anyone visiting Kyoto and wants to experience the culture. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you so much for hosting...

You can tell the tea master was very passionate about his practice and the assistant translated everything along the way and answered any questions. It was a very authentic experience having it in a local home in Kyoto. Would highly...
