Genkaidon Kawaramachi — Restaurant in Kyoto

Randomly found this place while passing by and the yummy pictures of the kaisendon caught my eye, so I decided to stop by for lunch and was able to walk right in without waiting before noon!

You order through scanning a QR code and they also have an English menu. I got the “matsu” course which included everything in the genkai don ultimate except for the bluefin tuna, as I wanted to try a variety of fish without splurging too much. The bowl comes with a side of miso soup which was also great.

All of the fish was super delicious and melted in my mouth, with my favorites being the sea urchin, scallop, and especially the medium fatty tuna. I’m usually a salmon lover but the medium fatty tuna truly blew me away. I definitely recommend this spot if you’re looking for delicious seafood bowls in Kyoto, and make sure to get the medium...

We found this place walking around Kyoto. The hostess was incredibly nice and friendly. As a foreigner, they helped us out and made sure we knew how to order properly and assist us with our children.

The food was great. I enjoy sushi and I really enjoyed the Genki set - came with a little bit of everything from uni, seared and raw salmon, scallops, and tuna. The miso was deep with flavor. I really enjoyed this dish and it left me incredibly full.

There are smaller dishes aside from the Genki set. There was a tuna combo that my son of 5 years really enjoyed and almost finished. It was a little much for him and his tiny stomach but he really enjoyed it.

The place was nice, clean, and had everything you needed at the table. The music was a great volume and played great music.
