Staff was extremely helpful and kind. Ueno (Chelsea) was awesome and spoke perfect English and helped us greatly. Go for the Wagyu, you will not regret it - some of the best steak we’ve had in Japan, and the sauces and runny egg made for excellent variety in each bite. Definitely pour your egg over the rice. I gave atmosphere only 4 stars because my parents are a bit older and after a long wait only the counter stools were available for us to sit. This issue could be easily solved if the restaurant put a “request table instead of counter, yes/no” field on the signup sheet outside the door. Overall a great experience and even more amazing Gyukatsu. HIGHLY recommend coming here when you visit Kyoto. Huge thanks to my friend for pointing this restaurant out. Advice: come just before or after the lunch wave. We arrived around 1 pm and waited about 45 minutes. Great find! Great Gyukatsu! 🥩 they also have AMAZING ice-cold Coke in glass bottles!!🧊

Despite being in a high tourist area, we didn’t have to queue and were seated right away when we came at 11am. They have quite the variety in meat cuts, catering to various budgets and preferences: wagyu sirloin, beef sirloin, regular beef, tenderloin, chuck flap, tongue. Generally the pricier the meat the more tender it is because of the higher fat content. The cheapest one (the regular beef) was already pretty good though. There’s even fish katsu, but I definitely do not recommend that. The set meal comes with an onsen egg, miso soup, rice, and 4 kinds of dips for the meat (herb salt, soy sauce, tonkatsu sauce, and curry sauce). You can even mix the egg and use it as a dip too. You can ask for a refill of rice and miso soup if you wish. Overall the food here was good and this is probably the best place for gyukatsu in Japan.

We came here for dinner due to the good reviews on google and had the opposite experience. The reason their reviews are so high is because they were asking people to rate their experience highly and shoving us/them the direct QR code to do so. Upon arrival the staff seemed visibly disorganised and inefficient. The waiting list system and available seats were not being utilised to the extent of people actually asking about it and why they were waiting without reason. We waited around 35min in the queue. After being seated we had to wait over 10min to order and the chef actually got on the floor to take ours, since the serving staff were busy on their phones and talking to each other. We ordered the wagyu and the special Japanese beef sets and got taken aback by its lack of quality and flavour. The quality of the beef was definitely not what they were advertising and that is without even mentioning the quality of the side dishes. The meat was chewy, hard, bloody and untender; 1/3 of my "premium Japanese beef" was pure fat; (see photo) The side dishes were extremely dull, the salt/pepper mix (essential pepper mix) was just MSG; The wasabi tasted like coloured horseradish and not even of quality; The grilling plate wasn't actually cleaned between guests; (see photo) The egg was essentially just holding its shape and that was also about it. It was not the silky, custardy nor perfectly cooked like other eggs we've had; The miso soup tasted like it came out of a package; The place was only occupied with tourists, which should have been the first give away; All gyukatsu places I have eaten and been to had their own special sauce, here they had gravy..; Both chefs were definitely not Japanese, since they were "too Western" looking to be so; This experience was for the both of us probably the most underwhelming to worst meal we have had so far in Japan. We're still quite shocked with how bad this was from A to Z. On top of that, the bathroom was extremely filthy and you could see dried urine and more on the toilet itself (see photos) I will not come again, and recommend everyone to keep walking and find a proper local Japanese restaurant. And for this we paid nearly 9500yen..

I was very excited to try this, but frankly, it was very disappointing. This is probably the first food establishment in Japan that I gave such a low score. When I arrived at 1 plus pm, there was a queue of around 8 people ahead. You'll have to leave your name on a waiting list board hanging outside the shop. I waited for around 45 minutes. The wagyu cutlet was expensive at 3300yen. The beef itself was tough, and it lacked any form of marbling you'd expect to see on a true wagyu beef steak. Even after slightly pan frying it to medium rare, it was still tough and sinewy. The friend minced cutlet was much nicer than the wagyu beef. At 3300yen, you're really better off just ordering the usual tenderloin or something else rather than this disappointing wagyu beef. The highball was good, though, but of course because it's a yamazaki highball. The service was pretty good though.
