Okutan Kiyomizu provided a truly exceptional and memorable dining experience. We opted for one of their tasting menus, which showcased a diverse range of tofu dishes, both savory and sweet. I'll admit, I'm not the biggest tofu enthusiast, but I was willing to try something new, and I was absolutely blown away. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and presented, highlighting the versatility of tofu in surprising and delicious ways. I ended up enjoying every single course, even though the sheer amount of food was quite substantial.
Beyond the incredible food, what truly sets Okutan Kiyomizu apart is its stunning traditional Japanese setting. The restaurant boasts a beautiful green backyard, creating a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. Dining here felt like stepping back in time, surrounded by serene beauty. It provided the perfect backdrop for a unique and unforgettable culinary journey.
Okutan Kiyomizu is more than just a meal; it's an experience. The combination of innovative and delicious tofu dishes, coupled with the breathtaking traditional setting, makes it a must-visit in Kyoto. Even if you're not a tofu lover, I highly recommend giving it a try – you might just be surprised. I wholeheartedly give...
Read moreDoufu meal is average quality, atmosphere is better than food, BTW ignore this place if you are meat lover but what I try to say here is .Be ware international tourist , if you can’t speak Japanese , you might get big chance to be over charged in purpose. We ordered one meal and soy milk set and agreed to pay 330 yen extra because apparently this is restaurant policy .even though when we pay cash at counter (Cash only restaurant )We find something wrong with what we pay. Then we went back to restaurant to discussed this issue , they still tried to misleading us until we pointed each item price with tax, then we refunded over charged 880 yen. I pretty sure this is neither first time nor last time either. As tourist we understand pay higher price is acceptable in such popular tourist attraction , but being treated as fool is unacceptable. If you guys believe reputation of business is much more than making money, you’ll know who’s fool...
Read moreIf you don't understand the language, THIS PLACE IS A TOFU SHOP. Although the scenery is nice at this restaurant, but it doesn't justify the food to be subpar. Initially, I thought it was a dessert place, but I should've check out the review before coming in.
Secondly, they don't let you just order their limited dessert items without ordering their tofu combo dishes range from 3000 to 4000 yen. I was a little disappointed with the taste of most dishes except for the milk plus ginger dessert (ordered separately).
Overall, unless you're adventurous or interested in the nice scenery. Like others mention before, it's a place for art not for taste and I would recommend to...
