Amazing! We were looking for a restaurant that could give us our first Tonkatsu experience. It was amazing and only a 4 minute walk from the Golden Temple. The shrimps were the star of the show, because of its juiciness in combination with the panko and combined sauce. If I could have ordered some more as a side dish I would have. The only option was one single shrimp for 450 yen. I had the premium tenderloin with 2 shrimps. The tenderloin was half the sice of the loin that my partner had but 1000 yen more so that was a bit of a bummer. My partner had the thick sliced loin (around 1840 yen). Although the taste was absolutely amazing and therefore all 5 stars. You can also grind your own sesame seeds to make the sauce for the Tonkatsu. 👍🏻 We had the restaurant all to ourselves. ‘Watch out’ for the opening hours. In the evening its only open...
Read moreWe had just wandered down the hill from the Golden Pavilion and stopped here, thinking we would just pick at random and see how we went. As it turns out this was THE BEST Tonkatsu we have ever had 🤩 Crumbly and crispy, everything was great - the chicken, the pork and the prawns. We also loved the ceremony of grinding the sesame seeds ourselves and then adding sauce to your own taste. From my perspective you should consider this a must do alongside the...

This restaurant is conveniently located right on the main street. We visited at around 6 PM, just after Kinkaku-ji Temple had closed for the day and the crowds of tourists had cleared out. We were the only ones there, which made for a wonderfully peaceful dining experience without any queuing or the usual restaurant chatter. The food was excellent, with generous portions. Ordering is modern and easy, done through a tablet, though we did find the on-screen font a bit challenging for older members of our party—a small imperfection in an otherwise great system. A huge plus is the free, unlimited refills of rice, shredded cabbage, and miso soup, making it a fantastic bargain option, especially for those with a hearty appetite. The building itself adds to the charm. It's a beautifully renovated, two-story traditional wooden house. The front section of the ground floor features a high ceiling, which gives the space an open and airy feel, completely avoiding any sense of being cramped. The warm lighting created a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Overall, it was a delightful experience. I would happily return to this restaurant on my next visit...
