Kobe Beef Factory — Restaurant in Kyoto

This is an excellent place to have Kobe beef at a reasonable price. It is NOT a tourist trap, as someone suggested; quite the opposite. We were a group of 5, tried the steak set, the yakiniku set, the beef sushi and the fries, we loved all of it.

Some potentially useful information:

*The ambience is definitely less fancy than usual for a Kobe beef place. Then again, the price is also lower than in most places; if you only care about the meat, this is a good trade-off.

*Kobe beef is the best in the world because of its fat. It's tasty, tender, juicy and buttery, but it's definitely not lean. Complaining that a Kobe beef-based dish is fat or greasy is like complaining that a croissant has butter in it.

*If you order a yakiniku set, you will have to cook it yourself. That's the whole point of yakiniku. If you dramatically overcook or undercook the meat, it might not live up to your expectations; that's not the fault of the restaurant, in my opinion.

*In our case, service was flawless, and the waitresses were really nice.

My friend and I had the Yakiniku set meal which comes with a sizzling plate. However, the plate came out cold without a fire. We asked the waiter and they ignited the fire. We thought it’d be good enough. Disappointingly, the plate itself was cold and our meat was so rubbery, very hard to chew. We didn’t know any better and just thought this is how it is. We then noticed that the tables around us had nice sizzling sound. This time, the waiter changed only one plate and we finally got good tasting meat but we only had two pieces left. It's a mall restaurant with an open environment. It was a very pricey beef dinner for 3. I spent about ¥40000 and came out feeling unfilled. All the beef dinner is in a set menu. That makes ordering more beef later almost impossible. We ordered a sirlon, lean beef, and a filet set menu. The sirlon is tough to chew while the other two are good. I had much better beef in Tokyo than these. The overall beef quality is unable to justify its lofty price. You should be able to get better beef and...
