This hotel's location is great. Shopping, restaurants, dog cafes, Nishiki food market are all just downstairs a few minutes walk away. And they're all covered so even if it rains it's still ok. Bus stop and subway station are nearby as well. The hotel is basically in a walking commercial district, it's about 100 meters away from the main road, so I think if you get a taxi, they can only drop you off on the side of the main road, you'll still need to walk to the hotel from there with your suitcases. But don't forget Japan has luggage delivery service. ||Room size is acceptable (ours was around 24 square metres). In fact it's a good size in Japan, since most rooms are small here. We had 2 carry-on and 1 checked in suitcases laying on the floor and it was fine. ||Elevator from street to lobby and then another elevator from lobby to room. Which is quite alright, no need to carry suitcases up the stairs.||Washer dryer 2 in 1 and a microwave in the room, very convenient 👍 and a kitchenette which means one more sink. A kettle, a small fridge, a small stove, cutting board, dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent. Iron and ironing board upon request but the iron is so hard to use. ||No hotel breakfast, but there's self service coffee and tea in the lobby. Nice sitting area there as well. ||No full daily housekeeping but you can request a limited housekeeping every day, which includes emptying the bins and changing the towels. We stayed for more than a week so they did arrange a full housekeeping in the middle of the stay. ||Staff are very polite and respectful. They always make sure that they greet you when you walk by, which is really nice. ||But here's our two cents about how to improve:||Ventilation in the bathroom is not good, therefore it gets smelly and stuffy. The shower curtain has little chance to dry so it smells a bit too. ||The table and chair set needs to be soft and plush with no wooden corners in this not huge room. Clumsy us bumped into the wooden armrests more than once 😬||Pillows could be better, or give guests some options for softness/hardness. ||Happy to stay here again next time when we are in Kyoto. And yes, it's a city that we would...

Read moreThis hotel is by far the best hotel experience I've ever had traveling, both domestically and internationally. Firstly, the staff here are OUTSTANDING. I don't think I've ever been to a hotel with such staff that are so consistently pleasant, kind, and happy to help. From helping us arrange luggage shipping, to helping us try and book things to do in Kyoto, they were always so nice. Thank you for making it such a great experience!
Then the rooms. Fantastic. Comfortable and clean, and the beds are amazing. The toiletries provided are refreshing. The laundry in the room is a washer/dryer in one that allows you to run the wash while you're out for the day. We also had a great view of the mountains from our room.
Then the amenities. Water machine, coffee machine, tea bags of all types available, and even complimentary sake/wine until 9pm. The only thing I hated about the complimentary sake/wine is the people that were taking advantage by filling up bottles instead of using it as intended.
Location is amazing. Close to major bus stops as well as the Gion Shijo station across the small bridge, and above the Kyoto Kawaramachi station. Also located basically in Nishiki market, and a very short distance to Pontocho Alley. Also central to a ton of Shinto Shrines and Buddhist Temples if that is what you're looking for.
Honestly if you're coming to Kyoto for the first time, I highly recommend this hotel. Best experience I've ever had, and the whole group I traveled with was impressed...
