Kyokabutoya Ikeda is an exceptional culinary treasure, tucked away just minutes from the vibrant Nishiki Market. The intimate setting, with its limited seating and personal interaction with Chef Ikeda, offers an experience that feels truly exclusive. Chef Ikeda serves only a few lucky guests each night, creating a setting where every dish is meticulously crafted before your eyes. The attention to detail and the artistry in the food preparation elevate the experience far beyond a typical meal.

We had the pleasure of enjoying the seasonal kaiseki course, and each dish was a revelation—highlighting the finest, freshest ingredients Japan has to offer. From the delicate sashimi to the perfectly seared wagyu, every bite showcased Chef Ikeda’s passion and technical prowess. His explanation of each dish added a layer of depth and appreciation to the meal, making us feel connected to the rich culinary tradition that inspired each plate.

What made the experience even more special was that it was a recommendation from Chef Ikeda’s drinking buddy and fellow chef at Gion Sushi6 (another must-try Kyoto restaurant). He insisted Kyokabutoya Ikeda was a must-visit, and it’s clear why. Chef Ikeda’s warm, welcoming demeanor, combined with his meticulous attention to detail, makes this dining experience unforgettable. He was incredibly accommodating to tourists, ensuring we understood the journey he was guiding us through.

Dining at Kyokabutoya Ikeda was one of the most memorable moments of our Japan trip. It’s the kind of place that you would return to time and time again, knowing each visit will be a new, thrilling experience. If you’re looking for an authentic, immersive dining adventure in Kyoto, this...

Thank you so much for the unforgettable dining experience, Ikeda! This restaurant has become me and my boyfriends favourite in Kyoto, and we still think about it in the UK. From now on, we will definitely return every time we come back to the Kansai area. We hope to see you and the team soon!

The food was amazing, even when we were full, we tried to finish every course cause it was so delicious. My boyfriend was so happy about the scallop onigiri you kindly wrapped for us to takeaway because he said it's the best rice he has ever had! He was a very happy man eating that the next day haha

We will never forget how kind you and the staff were to us and immensely grateful for the birthday cake you helped me to organise!

To everyone who is considering dining here, I'd highly recommend it if you want a delicious, memorable, and...

Eating at this restaurant was a unique experience. The chef cooks for only 8 people per night, so you have to reserve your place in advance. We ordered the seasonal menu, which was a thoroughly thrilling gastronomical experience, including the best quality fish, meat, and vegetables. The food was prepared exquisitely, right in front of us, and served with elegance. The chef was very cheerful and so enthusiastic about the food he was preparing! Every mouthful was a journey deeper into authentic modern Japanese cuisine. Next time I visit Kyoto, I will definitely eat here again. The experience was worth every penny. This is for those who appreciate fine dining. This restaurant was recommended by local Japanese people, and I...

We were so incredibly lucky to have our last meal in Kyoto in this beautiful, intimate restaurant. Start to finish, the experience was a joy. From the warm greeting we received to the delightful kind service and the engagement of the Master Chef who created both dinner and a show, the evening was perfect. Course after course was presented beautifully and bite after bite was delicious. While this definitely felt like a special occasion meal in a special occasion restaurant, we were perfectly comfortable in our travel clothes we had worn all day long. I wish we had discovered this gem earlier because I would have loved to try it for lunch as well. Five stars all around, thank you, Chef!
