We had the pleasure of enjoying the seasonal kaiseki course, and each dish was a revelation—highlighting the finest, freshest ingredients Japan has to offer. From the delicate sashimi to the perfectly seared wagyu, every bite showcased Chef Ikeda’s passion and technical prowess. His explanation of each dish added a layer of depth and appreciation to the meal, making us feel connected to the rich culinary tradition that inspired each plate.
What made the experience even more special was that it was a recommendation from Chef Ikeda’s drinking buddy and fellow chef at Gion Sushi6 (another must-try Kyoto restaurant). He insisted Kyokabutoya Ikeda was a must-visit, and it’s clear why. The food was amazing, even when we were full, we tried to finish every course cause it was so delicious. My boyfriend was so happy about the scallop onigiri you kindly wrapped for us to takeaway because he said it's the best rice he has ever had! He was a very happy man eating that the next day haha
