This is a very unique Tonkatsu restaurant hidden in plain sight in downtown Kyoto! Tonkatsu is breaded fried pork cutlets, made with a rice flour and thin strips of pork.
Tarekatsu is unique in its approach to Katsu, instead opting for very thin disks of pork instead of long strips. The result—incredibly tender, light, crispy, succulent, unctuous pork! The breading is incredibly light and airy, but is also a complete coating that provides great flavor with a tender chew without any overpowering oily or greasy flavor. The pork itself is finely pressed and incredibly thin—yet it still is tender and isn’t overcooked or dry despite how thin it was. It is a true testament to the technique and craft of the chef and staff!
The prawn was so tender and soft, and the vegetables were a nice touch to the meal for variety and flavor. The Miso soup was very simple yet delicious, and the rice was fluffy and done well. The miso sauce for the Tonkatsu was excellent as well and paired so nicely with the whole meal.
We had multiple people in our group who do not like Pork usually and are not a fan of the usual long strips of pork. They absolutely loved this restaurant and their preparation style—saying that it was utterly delicious and easy for them to handle! Multiple individuals said this was some of the best pork they had ever had anywhere!
The Staff is very polite and friendly. The Staff speaks good English, and they had English Menus as well. They take Credit Card and Cash.
Highly recommend this place for a fantastic and uniquely delicious Tonkatsu dining...

I asked if he spoke English, and he replied loudly "NO ENGLISH" . We should have turned around and left then. This younger worker seemed very grouchy and looked very disheveled, as if he just woke up. He was slamming and banging the pots and pans as he prepared our food. When he handed over the tray of food, I kindly reached out my hands to accept it and he scolded something in Japanese! Food was just OK. This restaurant could use better employees with better manners especially since this in a...

My fiancée and I had dinner here on our first night in Kyoto. We loved our experience so much that we came back on two separate occasions — once to try the takeout katsu sandwich, and a second night for dinner again.
The curry katsu we had here was our favorite meal, even topping the experiences we had in Tokyo. Everything we tried was delicious though —you can't go wrong with any selection.
The chefs are incredibly welcoming and friendly. They have an incredible attention to detail; for example, the head chef meticulously wiped the bowl to clean extraneous sauce drizzle before serving us. We'll be back the next time we...
