I randomly stumbled upon this place late at night near their closing time after seeing the long line at the Torikizoku next door near the Airbnb I was staying at. I did not expect this to become my all time favorite donkatsu/gyukatsu restaurant.
The food was incredible. I ordered a Set B, which included pork, beef, some vegetables, a premium egg, and a side of curry with a bowl of rice. The chef served each item individually, providing guidance on how to best enjoy each one. Everything was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The curry complemented the other items well, and it really tied everything together at the end when pouring it over the premium egg and rice.
The service was top notch. The chef ensured all of his customers were well taken care of, and it really added to the whole experience. He treated everyone as if they were his close friends, and even refilled the curry I finished to eat with the premium egg and rice at the end, without being asked. You can tell that he’s mastered his craft when observing him prepare your food in front of you.
The atmosphere was great. The chef and his team were happy to serve me, even though I came in near their closing hours. The chef took no shortcuts and ensured I got his full attention and care despite it being very late. I did not feel rushed at all, and the pacing of his serving was perfect as I was finishing each dish.
Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience visiting Kyoto Katsuda. I’ve had other top tier donkatsu and gyukatsu places before, but nothing compares to the quality served here. I am glad I discovered this place by accident, and I am already planning my next visit during my short stay in...
Read moreAfter several weeks of exploring the vibrant culture and diverse culinary landscape of Japan, my friends and I had the pleasure of dining at a remarkable restaurant that truly stood out from the rest. The highlight of our meal was the katsu, which was, without a shadow of a doubt, the best we've encountered on our journey. The secret to their exceptional katsu may well lie in the perfect balance of a crispy exterior and tender, juicy interior, coupled with a harmonious blend of spices that entices the palate.
But the experience extended far beyond the exquisite flavors of the food. The ambiance of the restaurant transported us to a place where culinary artistry meets warm hospitality. Watching the chef meticulously prepare each dish was like witnessing a master at work, turning each meal into a performance worth savoring.
The staff's attentiveness to guests, especially tourists, added a layer of warmth to our dining experience. Their genuine kindness was further exemplified by a charming token of appreciation presented to us upon our departure, a gesture that captured the essence of Japanese hospitality.
Among the array of delectable dishes, the scallops deserve a special mention. They were cooked to perfection, offering a succulent texture and a burst of the sea with each bite – an absolute must-order for any future patrons.
As our adventures in Kyoto draw to a close, one thing is certain: we will be making a point to return to this culinary gem. It's not just a meal; it's an experience that resonates with you long after you've left the table. For anyone seeking to indulge in the rich tapestry of Japanese cuisine, this restaurant is an indispensable stop on your...
Read moreWe've been on our Honeymoon going across Japan. Our halfway stop has Been Kyoto and have been loving it so far.
My partner chose this restaurant as we wanted to have a Katsu curry dish. We've also enjoyed the cutlets so this seemed perfect from the pictures online.
We've had friendly service at all the places we've gone but tonight at Katsuda was overwhelmingly warm and lovely.
All the staff were very helpful trying to help us with menu and how best to enjoy our food.
We've been trying to use as much Japanese when ordering out. We can only speak small simple phrases. With just that alone we felt a lot of positivity and warmth from the workers who seemed to really appreciate this.
The food is delicious with a variety of crispy cutlets to enjoy (Wagyu, Pork, Chicken). The Eggplant Tempura was particularly delicious and the chicken Cutlet was my favourite.
We got to talk and share about our time in Japan with the staff. The Owner was very generous and gave a lot of his time as well as the very lovely Waitress who cut a heart shaped Wagyu after telling them we were on our Honeymoon!
Needless to say we were very touched by their warmth and really enjoyed their delicious food.
I would whole heartedly recommend for the delicious food and the very...
