I always take a look at the reviews before I decide to go to restaurant. I wanted to experience real Japanese style breakfast so that I choose here. I was very disappointed with their service and food. They looked like they didn't care of us. They served the meals. But we couldn't eat. Because they didn't give us chopsticks. We kept on waiting. They didn't see us while they were talking by themselves. We had to get the chopsticks by ourselves. They saw what we did. But they didn't say anything and just smiled looking each other's. We were little upset but didn't complain about it. I thought I could stand it if the meal is good. But the meal was even worse. It was way too expensive as its quality. The fried fish was too small as its size almost same as small piece of tofu. I found later some reviews had picture of 2 pieces of fish on it. My kid one was even smaller. Side dish was not real dish. One of the side dish was small piece of bagle with tiny socked anchovies on it. Mine was 2200 yens. It was the one of the worst meals I ever had. If the reviews were real, they might treat us very different from them. I had a bad experience in Japan. The picture showed that there wasn't chopsticks. Enlarge my pictures then you could see the difference of the meal from other's. Please see my kid's...
Read moreThis place offers a modern twist on the traditional Japanese breakfast. I had the set that offers 3 seasonal sides, the fish of the day (I chose mackerel), miso soup and rice.
I upgraded my rice (550¥) to the one with seafood. Absolutely worth the upgrade since it came with quite a few pieces of sashimi (tuna?, salmon and scallops)! The rice was seasoned with a plum flavour, which gave it a refreshing spin.
The side dishes themselves were absolutely well executed. The fish was perfectly grilled and had an extremely memorable crust on its skin. The meat itself was tender. The cold vegetables were refreshing and tangy because of the tomato. I liked it a lot. My dining companions enjoyed the eggs and their additional side dish (tofu?) a lot as well. TLDR, the fish was the star of the show but the back-up dancers were also highly skilled.
We also had the pancakes (10-15min wait). It had a nice crust and a great thickness as you can see. It isn’t jiggly like those soufflé pancakes, which I personally enjoy. It was more like a sponge-type of thick pancake. The accompaniments with the pancake were some really fresh fruits, salted butter and whipped cream. I recommend taking this with coffee (I had their original blend hot Costa coffee. Nothing too special about it).
I recommend having...
Read moreWas here with my mum and sisters for brunch. Run by two hardworking young ladies all by themselves. Impressed!
Lovely plating of food! You can see from pics. We chose 2 sets of 3 side dishes and sashimi, and 1 set of 5 side dishes with sashimi and we changed to corned butter rice because the youngest loves her 🌽.
Out of the set of 5 side dishes,
The miso soup was the best! Flavourful and sweet with onions, carrots, mushrooms and miso. It was the best miso soup I have ever had!
The corned butter rice, my youngest finished her entire bowl, and you know what that means.
Salmon. A tad salty for me. But the crusty skin was good.
5 side dishes. The black sesame tofu was the best, fragrant with sesame and a dressing of spring onions, soy sauce and thinly sliced shiso leaf (i think it was shiso). Next was an interesting eggs custard cube. Rest were pretty standard, but the colour combination and layering of pickles were a beautiful sight.
Overall, I think we spent about ¥60k+. Good ambience, not rushed. Would highly recommend trying to cool the heatiness and heaviness of barbecues and...
