It depends on what you're looking for, but for us, this was a really memorable and unique experience. There is a cafe right next door owned by the same people. This is the restaurant. There was no menu, hence no prices, and only one set meal for lunch. I don't know if dinner is the same.
The restaurant was empty when we arrived, and it took some time to attract the owner's attention, so don't leave too quickly. Call out and someone will come.
The food is Kyoto kaiseki style, with numerous dishes served one at a time, to be savoured individually. The quality of the food and service were outstanding. We also loved the hot sake from a Kyoto brewery.
This was a slow and quite luxurious experience, especially since we were the only customers, which is almost unheard-of in Kyoto! In a way, I was reluctant to write a review, because I don't want it to become crowded, but I think this experience deserves to be shared.
It cost ¥9000 for two people, with sake. Quite a reasonable price. Don't go if you're in a hurry. We were there for about 90 minutes.
So if you have time, appreciate beautiful Japanese food, and want a slow, quiet meal away from the hustle and bustle of Kyoto, this is the place for you. Highly...
Read moreMy partner and I stumbled into this restaurant as it was near our hotel and it was open early in the morning. This was the absolute best decision to eat here as every dish that was brought out for our lunch selection was absolutely impeccable.
The shop is quite small and from the outside it may not look like anyone is working but trust me when I say it is worth it to walk in and get the attention of the owner for this meal. It was a set menu and we were given two choices to pick from. The owner was super kind and even translated every single dish to explain to us what exactly was being served.
I will be recommending this restaurant to all my friends and family when they come to Kyoto. And I will be returning to this restaurant each time I visit moving forward, as it has hands down been the best meal I have...
Read moreThis restaurant is in a quiet neighborhood near Nijo castle. We literally opened the door to see if they had space, as we were staying nearby, and they did. The best meal we have had in Kyoto and one of the best we have had in Japan. The food is very refined and has multiple courses. We took the multiple dish evening set and everything was delicious. The owner is super friendly and trying to explain every dish with google translate. He is genuinely interested in his customers and making an effort to have a conversation. We truly enjoyed this restaurant and our evening and almost felt like we had made a new...
