Worst cafe I’ve ever been to. I love kissatens and try to go to as many as I can. We stumbled across this cafe and decided to go in, so far the service was great (assuming it’s because we spoke in japanese), sat down and ordered. Our beautiful drinks and pudding came out and I pushed it towards the wall to take a picture (ensuring nobody was in the background), the male owner came up and said no pictures were allowed, I profusely apologised and acknowledged I didn’t see the sign, and showed to him I deleted my picture. Everything was fine, until I started looking at my phone again to check the trains. The female owner came up to us and started berating us for taking another photo (we didn’t), aggressively making comments and remarks about our manners and went on about it for a while. We were too stunned to speak. We know that it was our wrongdoing for taking a photo without carefully asking but her aggressiveness and berating was beyond excessive. She then accused us of not speaking and understanding Japanese and continued to aggressively tell us off in English. We had said already we didn’t take a photo again and were just checking the map. It left a sour taste, we did not touch our food and drinks and just left. we had been in there for a total of 20 minutes. The male owner seemed a bit apologetic towards his female co owner but the experience had already been ruined. Worst experience in Japan and I was left absolutely livid.
Do not go to this place if you’re a foreigner. They do not want you there but will let you in and...

So while the coffee is great, the service is not. I have lowered my score from five stars to two.
Original review:
If you see my reviews, I visit a lot of kissaten coffee shops when I visit Japan. So far, this one has the best "basic house blend" that is reasonably priced at 400 yen.
It is the most well balanced house blend I've had in this trip. Bitter, but not super bitter, since it's soothes sourness holds up to it completely. Along with those two profiles, it has a very sweet finish. Just a great cup for st good price.
The place is lovely too, if s bit crammed. The whole place might fit just over a dozen people, if they don't mind getting cozy.
It's hidden away, but in a very busy tourist arena in kawaramachi. Absolutely worth checking out if you enjoy quality coffee.

Read moreHand-crafted coffee by a very hardworking couple and well frequented by what appears to be a regular crowd. Some desserts such as panna cotta, cheese cake, and biscuits accompanied the beverages which include coffee, cream infused milk, tea and soft drinks. Both prepare the coffee as a well-trained batista would. The place was highly recommended by a coffee lover, but perhaps my taste buds are not as trained. The house blend came across slightly over-roasted, and so was the taste as they was no hint of fruit with the char overwhelming any other flavour. The after taste was, however, long and managed to eke out a little cacao flavour, and the beans was of decent quality. Perhaps, will give it another try, if there's an opportunity, but the fact that smokers are welcome to puff away could be part of the reason I could not nose the...
