Found this place on tabelog and made a booking for dinner with my wife. What was expected to be a great night turned into a fantastic one instead! The service was beyond expectations, my wife and I are both left handed, the first sushi served was tilted to be picked up easily for right handed folk but the chef looked at both of us and immediately served it to be picked up by lefties instead. Honestly a really small gesture but speaks about their extreme attention to detail and levels of service!
Food itself was spectacular, every piece a wonder in your mouth. There were actually more photos of the food, but I think I've uploaded plenty. Watching the 2 chefs at work was both mesmerising and appetite inducing. If you have dietary restrictions, they are willing to accommodate as well. They head chef also recommended sakes for us, which were excellent. Managed to try a pretty rare sake that only has 100 bottles in a year.
The guests that dined with us were also quiet at first, but we eventually broke the ice and made new friends who elevated to experience for everyone (I hope).
Overall, a must try if you're in kyoto, the restaurants old school fridge also added to the special atmosphere and charm that kyoto has.
I, for one, will be back here again once...
Read moreABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! I am so glad my husband found this place because it was our greatest sushi experience in Japan! It is a small and cozy spot where you will be immersed into the creativity and perfected skill of sushi. The chef and his apprentice are incredibly skilled and passionate, which is apparent with each piece of sushi. You will be given a price for a set of sushi, each day depending on the availability of that morning's catch. The apprentice was so genuine and would explain the uniqueness of each piece and answer any questions. It truly was eye opening and I was so appreciative of their time and effort. I see other comments about people being turned away without reservations - due to the small size of the restaurant, they have to be considerate of the reservation times and to allow appropriate time for everyone to enjoy their meal. It's not a rushed thing. They were very reasonable and willing to work with us even though there were reservations later. Another thing to keep in mind for travelers: In Japan eating out is not about bending over backwards for the customer. If there is something good, you should make a plan to research and make a reservation. They are doing everything right here and I can't...
Read moreOh my gosh, the sushi here is absolutely the best I’ve ever tasted in Kyoto! Every piece was incredibly fresh, and I found myself savoring flavors I never thought I would enjoy. The sake pairing was nothing short of amazing.
I was blown away by the little details; each sake we ordered came with a pristine new cup, ensuring that every sip was pure and untainted. The customer service was fantastic—the staff is so friendly, and you can really feel the warmth of this family-run establishment. Seriously, let's #SupportSmallBusinesses!
Yes, there is a bit of a language barrier, but the chef, souschef, and the server went above and beyond to keep us in the loop with their translator.
It's essential to remember that we’re in their country; it’s our job to learn their language and immerse ourselves in their culture! This place is...
