Shinshindo - Teramachi — Restaurant in Kyoto

This neighborhood of Kyoto has numerous French and French inspired restaurants, and this one is quite good. To one side, you have the bakery, which offers croissants (very authentic), and other fresh baked breads and goods, along with French inspired Japanese baked goods that all look very appetizing. On the other side is the restaurant, which has a wonderful western style menu for breakfast or brunch; kind of like an American diner blended with a French brasserie. You almost expect to find the place full of westerners. We came here twice as we enjoyed the friendly service, and the menu, which is easy to order from as there are clear pictures of dishes, and choices, along with some English translations (but, no French translations, funny enough). The food presentation is just grandiloquent in this cute little eatery/bakery. The interior hosts an aesthetically quaint & old fashioned design, away from the modernness.

Succinctly, they are known for their “sets” where their dishes comes with unlimited bread and a drink. We graciously ordered their hamburg curry dish with mash potato. The plethora of the smell of freshly baked and well-designed bread fills the air!

My favorite location for Shinshindo. Often go there for breakfast after my dentist visit. In comparison to other branches in busier places, it is in a quieter residential district with great boutique shops of all kinds of goodies around.

I like this type of simple and traditional cafe with cozy vibes. This place in particular gives a feel of Showa. Quite few options for breakfast sets and comes with good value. You’ll see more locals here. Staff are attentive and helpful, speaks a bit of English even.
