Our experiance in Kyoto had been happy till this place.
My wife and I walked in nearly 9pm and ordered Special Grade Wagyu Sukiyaki Course S (JPY6,578 include tax) and Middle-Class Grade Wagyu Sukiyaki Course A (JPY5,478 include tax). The bill showing no details but a handwriten amount of JPY17, 556. We felt just not right at that time but didn't doubt it and simply paid based on trust, plus we were really tired after a whole day. While walking back to hotel, we felt again not right and double-checked price over internet and found it is supposed to be JPY12,056 only! We were overcharged by JPY5,000. I came back at 10pm but they are closed.
While we came back again the next day (May 11) asked for double-checking, the boss was very unpatient and said that their bill is not here. We asked to talk with the waitress last night who should knew exactly what we ordered as we were the last guests to the window at the second floor. The boss said she is not here but we found her 2 minutes later! The boss insisted that we should come back again tomorrow 4pm but we had to catch the flight back at that time. We asked them to write this case down and return overpaid amount through credit card the next day after double-checking. The boss refused, asked us to leave and even more, call the police! We waited till policemen came. Before that, a Japanese customer with integrity helped us to translate and argue with the boss but no results. 6-7 Policemen came very soon. We told them everything but policeman couldn't help either becuase they hide the bill. While leaving, a Taiwan couple talked to us about their beef was replaced with pork but they dared not to argue. Their neighbor table, also foreigners were astonished seeing the bill...They even saw the boss refused local Japanese customer but accepted foreigners while there were still 4 empty tables. It was a set-up to foreigners! The boss is a cheater and liar! JPY5,000 is not a big deal but the feeling of being cheated is terrible. Hardly imaging it happened in Kyoto, Japan! We don't expect to get our money back now. But we have to write it here to alarm next comer: STAY ALARMED,...
Read moreThis was one of my favorite meals I had while in Japan. The complaints claiming poor service really surprise me because everyone was so incredibly nice and welcoming when I went. The owner and waitstaff were always smiling and took the time to answer my questions and make sake recommendations. I was traveling solo and was looking for a late dinner. They welcomed me and didn’t make me feel rushed at all. The restaurant is very beautiful and looks out over the canal.
I had one of the set meals and the sukiyaki was absolutely delicious. It was also the only meal in Japan where I was served yuba which is apparently a Kyoto specialty. It’s a tofu with a really unique shredded texture. I could have eaten a whole plate!
Great ambience and...
Read moreWasn’t the best dinner experience for us unfortunately. For the price we’ve had better meals. Despite having an English menu, the staff hardly spoke English so she couldn’t understand what I asked and couldn’t give any recommendation. Our last dish took more than an hour to come and we already finished our meal. If they had advised it would have been fine. But because we couldn’t cancel and they probably rushed it, the wagyu was quite rare, very chewy and not nice. We don’t usually have leftovers but tonight unfortunately we did. Had to go find food...
