Came on 05/02/2025 and had an amazing meal. I ordered the Penne Arrabiata and a margarita pizza and they were both absolutely delicious. My wife had one of the specials that was on which was Lamb stewed in tomato sauce and she was blown away by the taste and how it melted in her mouth. This restaurant is a just a little hole in the wall and will be missed if you aren't looking for it. The atmosphere was great and it honestly felt as if I was back in Italy while inside eating. Die Taverna e Bar il Contadino ist ein absoluter Geheimtipp in Kyoto! Ein kleiner, gemütlicher Laden mit einer unglaublich sympathischen Inhaberin, die zugleich die Köchin ist – und das merkt man sofort: Hier steckt in jedem Gericht Liebe, Hingabe und echtes Handwerk.

Wir hatten Penne mit Gorgonzolasoße, Spaghetti mit Tomatensoße und Spaghetti aglio e olio – und was soll man sagen: Es war vermutlich das beste italienische Essen, das wir je außerhalb Italiens gegessen haben. Die Soßen waren perfekt abgestimmt, die Pasta auf den Punkt gekocht, und jedes Detail wirkte frisch und mit Sorgfalt zubereitet.

Besonders beeindruckt hat uns, dass die Inhaberin alles direkt vor unseren Augen frisch zubereitet hat. Später, als wir bereits gegessen hatten, konnten wir zusehen, wie sie mit derselben Ruhe und Leidenschaft die Soßen für den nächsten Tag vorbereitete: Tomaten wurden von Hand passiert, Zwiebeln ganz langsam geschmort – jedes Detail in echter Handarbeit.

Hier geht es nicht nur um Essen, sondern um ein kulinarisches Erlebnis, das man so nur selten findet. Wer in Kyoto Lust auf authentische, hausgemachte italienische Küche hat, sollte unbedingt hierherkommen. Ein echtes Highlight unserer Reise – und eine uneingeschränkte...

Visited Kyoto September 2025. This restaurant was suggested by Google maps, as being close by our hotel. The first time we went, we didn't know what to expect. We were blown away by the amazingly tasting food (and wine), the great cozy atmosphere and the friendliness of the owner. We had such a great time, we went back twice more. We definitely recommend...
