I had the pleasure of dining at Tempura Seafood Yonefuku Shijo Karasuma during my recent visit to Kyoto with two friends, and I must say, it was worth the wait! Despite the long line to get a table for three, we were seated within 45-60 minutes, and it was clear why this place is so popular.
The menu offered a great variety of options, and we ended up ordering a mix of seafood and meat dishes, including salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, assorted sushi, tempura shrimp, tempura chicken, steak with mushrooms, and chicken karaage. We also tried the Kyoto beer and sake, which were excellent.
Everything we had was fantastic, from the freshness and quality of the seafood to the crispiness of the tempura and the tenderness of the steak. The portions were generous and beautifully presented, and we could tell that the ingredients were carefully chosen and prepared with great skill.
What impressed us even more than the food was the service. Our waiter/cashier was very efficient and attentive, taking our orders promptly and making sure we had everything we needed. Despite the busy and bustling atmosphere, we felt well taken care of and appreciated as customers.
Overall, I highly recommend Tempura Seafood Yonefuku Shijo Karasuma to anyone looking for a delicious and memorable dining experience in Kyoto. Just be prepared to wait a bit, as this place is definitely worth...
Read moreFirst; the tempura was good and fresh, and well cooked. Secondly, and more importantly, the service was awful.
We sat down and watched everyone who arrived after us get served before us. We were annoyed and so asked a waitress over to order. She didn’t apologise for the delay when taking our order. Then, when our first bite of food arrived it arrived promptly but we were given something we didn’t order. We ate our bits, and waited half an hour before getting annoyed and asking the waitress where our next dish was as everyone else was again getting served food before us. She hadn’t put the order through. She barely apologised and then added it and asked us to wait. 5 minutes later another waitress arrived and tried to give us a dish we hadn’t ordered! Eventually the ordered dish arrived (the tempura was quite good to be fair). We couldn’t enjoy the meal given the overall experience. What should have been an hour of eating turned into 2 hours. To add insult to injury when we went to pay the bill, the waitress was snarky and there were 2x service charges that we were not expecting.
Good food,...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible service. It all started when our name was skipped because they only announced it in the outside seating area, while we were waiting inside. It took me a while to realize this because they don’t strike off names after calling them. When I asked about the status of our table, they said we had to wait. The final straw was when a party of four, who had arrived after us, got seated before us. This shows how negligent they were, assuming we had missed our call when we were waiting the entire time.
Unless I missed the water option on the online menu, I had to walk up to a waiter and ask for water.
As for the food, it was pretty good, but I found a rather large bone in one of my sashimi pieces, which was disappointing. They also served lukewarm beer to the other people at my table, which was nasty.
So, if you want to wait a long time for overpriced, decent-tasting food, this is the perfect place. But I have standards, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to friends or family unless they step up their...
