It started off from a random walk around Shijo, as most tourists do. I was looking for some place where I can comfortably sit down for dinner. I didn't even bother with Google map for ideas... then this restaurant came up in sight.
Not very obvious, but the environment seems calmly enough compared with the long queues at those popular ones, so I gave it a try after a waitress came out and welcomed me.
The first set dinner of soymilk and bacon carbonara gave me a very good impression. Not like genuine carbonaras which must come with dairy cream or pork fat, it is lighter that is easy to finish without hesitation.
That's also why I chose to give it one more shot before I leave Kyoto - Awaji beef Bolognese with Hatcho miso.
I also like the tea available along with the set meal. I especially like the Sarari (さらり) tea came with the carbonara, which is green tea with lemon essence oil - the aroma is so soothing.
The restaurant's interior is also comfortable to me. Not so noisy like the other popular choices outside, I can comfortably finish the dinner without...
Read moreI came here to try the Japanese pasta for the first time! It is a cute cafe that has English menu.
Food: we ordered one French fries with Aosa Seaweed which was 550 yen, Kyoto Mortadelle Ham Okakiage for 600 yen, two orders of the Konana’s Soy Milk Carbonara (the one in the photo with the egg and ham!) for 1,360 yen each, and a strawberry parfait. Everything was good! The Japanese pasta was a bit hard as it should be and the soy milk works well and not makes it taste very heavy like the typical Italian pasta dish. The fries were good too! Taste like seaweed snack chips 😋. The ham okakiage was probably my least favorite of everything we ordered, but the Smokey roast taste was good!
Service: the service here was good. We wait at the front and the waitress took us to our seats then gave us one menu to look over. The waitress knew a little English so it was very helpful!
Overall: If you wanna try Japanese pasta then definitely check this restaurant...
Read moreWa Pasta Konana caught our eyes when we emerged from Nishi Market. It was a welcome sight with a calm, peaceful ambience with an interior that is tastefully decorated. Being on time for Happy Hour was a bonus, too. There is a nice variety of pasta dishes, thoughtfully created with fresh ingredients. Nicely balanced, I ordered the Asari and Maitake Mushrooms, and my wife had the Soboro Chicken and Eggplant with Miso Tomato. They were delicious! The pasta was light and not overbearing. A healthy combination of ingredients and choices even make the desserts guilt-free. The service was warm, friendly, and quick. No regrets! Highly recommended if you find yourself in...
