Unagi place
Was taken to dinner here by a local after a business meeting. At the entrance there is a small area where you can buy gifts that include snacks and some sweets. You can also see how the unagi is roasted through the kitchens clear viewing window. I saw that during the roasting/grilling process, the skewer of eel was also rinsed in water- possible to prevent it from drying out? It seemed like a very lengthy and delicate process.
You need to remove your shoes and put them in a locker (you keep the key) before entering the main dining room. There were plenty seating. Our host had preordered the dinner course so I can’t say as to what it was but I can tell you that the main eel entree was the most damn delicious eel I’ve ever had in my life. He explained that Kyoto has their own way of cooking eel and that it only tastes like this only in Kyoto.
I did notice that the service there was quite slow. It seemed like the wait staff were not very attentive, many times we were missing things like utensils or new plates to share, or waters. Our host did mention that the service has dropped a lot over the years but the food quality still remained. Not such a heckler for service unless it’s fine dining so no biggie for me.

Read morel walked in this restaurant on a week day without reservation. lt was really a great ambiance with professional service. The atmosphere was amazing and food was delicious especially l loved Zaru Tofu with special salt and sauce. Tempura l have order was so soft, quite a surprise for me. Overall quite delicious meal served with complimentary tea. But please kindly note that there was a table charge for 300Yen, well deserved.
