I am travelling on my own for the fifth time in Japan and fish is normally my choice. As I had to have lunch near Kiyozumi temple this was the perfect way to get away from the crowds. I had a réservation but there was actually plenty of space. The environment looks fancy while traditional and discreet. The service was perfect, Kota san had a perfect balance between attention and time to enjoy the meal by yourself. The music was calm. The food was memorable! Chef Sho san cooked a perfect medium rare Yamagata beef with some vegetables and excellent rice and miso soup (6600¥). I had wine for a very interesting price of 900¥. The air con was slightly too cold for me to enjoy the meat slowly while it was still warm (but then again that’s a really a gourmet detail). I had a closed space just for myself so I could even close my eyes when the flavour was really great. The only thing I would like to see improved were the other customers sometimes being noisy, could be interesting to have some sound separation from other tables. Also in the end another waiter brought me the wrong bill that was way more expensive but I believe that was an honest mistake. There is a reasonable 7% service charge. To sum up, really great experience. Will probably come back and try the more pricey Kobe beef. What a safe tasty haven away...
Read moreThe best meal with the best service. Amon-san cooked the outstanding food, and Kota-san was equally outstanding with his service. I had the Kobe and Yamagata, and they also had the very limited Yonezawa today. They let me have all three to compare. All three were fantastic, and I could really taste and feel the difference in all three. The Yonezawa definitely proved it was the best and most limited. I also had the seated food gras, which was also amazing. And get a craft cola, it's a spiced soda, similar to a cider. They don't take reservations here, which is great if you either couldn't get a table elsewhere, forgot to, or just came in on a whim. They are also foreign-friendly and speak great English. It will fill up quickly though, so come early and you won't be disappointed....
Read moreMy partner has a gluten allergy which gave us a bit of challenge while visiting the nearby temple. There was a worker outside the door who we should his gluten card too and she asked if oil and butter were okay and that she would triple check if the halal miso was gluten free which she was later able to confirm. We then proceeded to follow her up to have some of the most tender and delicious beef of our life. We each had the combo of Yonesawa & Kobe beef my Kirby-type eater of a partner actually slowed down and savoured the food. Our meal came out to just about $200 USD which is for such a great steakhouse blew our mind. Definitely a great spot to eat for both the gluten sensitive and the non-gluten sensitive. 10s...
