Had a visit in Kyoto and found this branch as they had some good reviews, and were promoting half-price alcohol drinks so we decided to give it a go.
As a non-Japanese speaker, the first impression of the restaurant - not English friendly, typical Japanese Chef and staff, typical Japanese foodie atmosphere, which in general was not bad.
Service was okay, but the servant boy don’t really understand English, same as the chef, so ordering was a big rough.
Good thing was: the Japanese beer was excellent so I had two serves; steam egg with mushroom was delicious, so must try that if you go there.
In terms of the nigiri, I ordered a number of fish ones, overall they were fine - freshness 6/10, flavour 5/10, rice was okay, wasabi was not enough though so overall the Nigiri were fishy and you can taste the ocean and that’s definitely not good.
Most importantly, the Sea Urchin was bad as I can taste the bitterness and I can tell the Sea Urchin that I had was out there for a while, which made me and my wife feel yucky, and we had to grab another bite to get away with that bad flavour.
Price: slightly overpriced if that’s the level of nigiri you get. After we had that sea urchin, me and my wife went to another sushi place, spent only 1500 yen for the same type of nigiri where the previous one costed me 4400 yen.
Had a number of locals went in while we were dining. The atmosphere was fine, and I would recommend to not to try nigiri but other fried or...
Read moreSushi was below average. Makis were falling apart. Fish roes sticking everywhere even though we had nothing with them (ginger, makis, ...).
It took a long time until we got our order and then more to get the rest of it. Parts were not fully correct. Parts of it were forgotten and only after we asked about when the rest will come they admitted their failure and asked us what was missing. Another table had similar issues as far as we heard and got a missing order when they were about to leave.
Generally they seem to be not very well organized as well. Some customers (needed to) help(ed) themselves getting them plates, etc.
Their ordering system was intended to make it easier, but seems like this failed.
Price for the sushi was rather expensive compared to other places we tried in Kyoto. Some mentioned it is cheap -- maybe for Gion standards.
Generally, rather go...
Read moreHad our late night drinks at this friendly neighborhood izakaya. The staff were friendly, and it had a pretty chill atmosphere. Definitely a good place to hang out and have a nice cold biru biru.
The food was quite umami, especially the stir-fry mushroom w beef. We also ordered the fried chicken, octopus, chicken wings and udon which is all pretty thumbs up worthy.
My friend ordered sushi but it turned out to be pretty average, but it’s not bad according to him. Overall, would recommend to visit for a late...
