The only hotel I have ever had to leave early and book somewhere else. This place is SO LOUD. I am a very deep sleeper but don't understand how anyone can sleep here and give a positive review. There is zero soundproofing between floors - you can hear absolutely every tiny little thing from the people above. Every footstep vibrates the entire room downstairs because the floors are hard with zero acoustic layers. A chair being moved is felt vibrating your brain against your skull. We had people above us awake until 3am and other nights they started moving at 4am.
We had booked to stay here for 2 weeks - but only lasted 1.5 weeks before sleep deprivation got the better of us and we had to book a hotel down the road. Ended up costing us a lot of money because we had to pay last-minute prices for the new hotel and of course this place didn't give us our money back for the remaining nights. I bought ear plugs after the first night but they didn't help very much because the noise seems to vibrate down through the actual building so you still feel and hear it. It probably doesn't help that the beds are just a mattress on the floor.
We asked staff three times if anything could be done, for example switch our rooms, move us to the top floor given we were there for so long, or even just remind guests checking in that the noise travels to the rooms below. Unfortunately the staff offered absolutely no help and then literally ignored us when we said we have to leave early and find another hotel.
It's a shame because otherwise the place is okay - the location is good and the room has most things that you need. It's very basic and 'tired' but most things work. Our main criticism besides the noise were poor design/attention to detail (for example, the shower was right next to the kitchen and there were no towel hooks anywhere or foot mat provided, so the kitchen got wet everytime someone had a shower) and the beds/pillows were very uncomfortable.
Literally the worst place I've stayed in my life. Hotels really just need to provide a place to sleep, and this place failed miserably. Stay somewhere else and actually enjoy...
Read moreWe had a pleasant stay at Hostel Inn Kyoto Gion. It's a nice place with rooms with fully fledged kitchen and laundry. We are vegetarian, so it was essential for us to cook at home. The kitchen was excellent and the host even provided us with a rice cooker.
Since, everything is written in Japanese on the appliances, we requested the guy at the reception to explain us how they work and he was generous enough to come to our room and give instructions.
The location is simply amazing. About 5 mins from both bus and train station. The surrounding area is also quite good with restaurant and bars closeby. The famous Gion's geisha district and Shirakawa area is also at a walkable distance, so we could go there early morning when streets are empty and you can take nice pics. And also in the evening when colours are beautiful!
We were in room 404 and it's good enough for 3 people. The bunk beds ensure you can rest peacefully. There is laundry...
Read moreFantastic location. Very reasonably priced. Good rooms and amenities.
The room is located less than a 5 minute walk from a bus stop. Check in took less than 5 minutes. The room uses a punch key to get into, easy! Location is middle of gion, geisha area, meant restaurants and pubs around and tourist streets all very close. Was in room 501, one bedroom has a big double bed and a bunk bed. There are two mattresses on the floor of the main area. Mattresses a medium firm. Kitchen has a full height fridge, big sink, induction cook top. There is a washer and dryer in the room as well. Good pressure from taps and reasonably good hot water temperature. Room is quiet. And the reverse cycle ac worked perfectly for the 0⁰c temperatures at...
