カンポ ディ ジラソーレ — Restaurant in Matsumoto

After coming back from a day of sightseeing or while waiting for your train, Girasole is an excellent place to grab some Italian and Japanese-style Italian food.

The space is small, but cozy and well-decorated. (They’re really fans of the local soccer team!) The service is prompt and very friendly.

As you can see from the photos, we ordered the following dishes:

kinoko mushroom and bacon pasta - a Japanese style pasta dish

tarako sauce pasta - salted cod roe pasta

puttanesca and shrimp spaghetti

curry with whole grain rice

ginger ale

tea soda - a fun, carbonated sweet tea

yona-yona ale, a local craft beer. A pale ale

Everything was very good and recommendable. You’ll also see a wide selection of local craft beers. The waitress seemed pretty happy that I ordered the yona-yona pale ale. If ever I’m in the area again, I hope to return and try their pizzas.

This restaurant is a gem hidden away in a corner of Matsumoto station....

Absolutely recommend this place! I came here for lunch after reading the Google reviews — and they didn’t lie. The Margherita pizza was delicious. The tomato purée was naturally sweet, and the dough was fluffy and chewy on the inside, with a perfectly crispy outside. The balance was just right. Decent Napoli-style pizza baked in just a few minutes in a little “Neapolitan 500” oven. True to the Napoli-style of dough which comes out just a bit doughy instead of crispy. Interesting twist to the 4 Cheese which is served with a small side of honey and dried fruit nuggets. Plenty of beer options. Add another country to our list of places where we have dined on pizza.
