I walked to Katsushika while exploring Nagasaki and was pleasantly surprised by this little hidden gem. The place is small and cozy, but I got seated right away. The staff were extremely polite and kind — the kind of quiet hospitality that makes you feel instantly at ease. After ordering, I was brought a few small side dishes — almost like Korean banchan — along with my drink, which was a nice touch and kept me happy while waiting. The food took a bit to come out, but honestly, it was worth every second. When my main dish arrived, I was ready… and I demolished it. I’m already a fast eater, but this was next-level — full Homer Simpson donut-speed level. It was that good. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and just incredibly satisfying. I barely came up for air. The vibe is chill, humble, and full of local charm — not flashy, but packed with heart. If you’re in Nagasaki and want a delicious, unpretentious meal with warm service, this place delivers. It’s the kind of meal that sneaks up on you and becomes a highlight of the day. I’d go back in a heartbeat. They accept credit cards! Check it out. Good food, plenty of food for...
Read moreA little confusion over the two identically named restaurants on opposite sides of the junction 😆 However, we had no regrets ending up in this one yesterday!
Beautiful food, with some of the most unique delicate 'batter' (if that's the right word, it was more like a flakey shell) around the chicken katsu. For an amazing ly good value of ~940 yen, the chicken katsu came with a Japanese salad starter, pickled vegetable side, a cloudy miso soup (very good flavour and texture), and some of my favourite sticky rice I've had on this trip! Large grains, clumps nicely on chopsticks, very shiny.
Service was very attentive, friendly, welcoming, and they had good English! Also a (simple) English menu was available. As we've been finding in Nagasaki, you don't see foreigners often, but this place was full of locals of all ages, a good sign that it was popular with Japanese people. I only gave 4 stars for atmosphere because it had some broken wallpaper, that's it! It seems a very functional restaurant that prioritises food quality over an overly impressive room. I would definitely come back for more katsu if I were staying in...
Read moreVery very good quality of meat served. This is one of the few places where you can get both pork katsu and beef katsu (which I have not tried too much). They beef katsu was cooked to perfection and basically it was close to melting in your mouth. As for the pork katsu, it was very juicy and yet crispy on the outside. Prices here are indeed slightly more then what is the usual, but this is for the quality of the meal. It is a small restaurant so there could be a chance that you might have to wait. For non-Japanese speaking/reading guests, sadly they do not yet have a English menu, but the the owner (I assume) does have some photos to show you while pointing out to the menu. If I am ever back in the area, I will certainly go back to this place. So far I see it is a...
