Exceptional unagi. Ordered the regular hitsumabushi but I enjoyed it so much I wish that I'd ordered more! I knew that I enjoyed eel from trying it before elsewhere, but the dish served here was beautifully grilled. The skin had achieved a perfect caramelisation that was simply a delight.
While I did enjoy trying the 3 different ways to eat the eel, honestly the meat was so beautiful I stuck with just the eel and rice by itself. Similar to a top tier steak, sure you could add sauce and extras...but you really don't need to!

If you're looking to avoid a queue you might want to come a bit later, even by 7pm the queue had died down. Once you reach the start of the line there are two seats and you are given a menu to order. English menu is available. Food came out quickly once we were seated. We ordered the specialty Nagoya eel and it was delightfully crispy. Read moreWhen it comes to grilled eel, this is it. As a foreigner that's had it multiple times in and outside of Japan I can say that, in my opinion, this is the best I've ever had.
Service is super friendly. But beware of long waiting times. We had to wait 45 minutes at around 1:30 pm.
Also, there's the main eel dish and another one that says "special" which the only difference is a tiny extra portion of pickles and literally a tiny eel liver in the same soup of the "normal" order. In my opinion, it is not worth the extra 10 USD.
