The food of this cafe I visited in Nara was good, we were served delicious curry and egg rice, which tasted very good and was an excellent example of Japanese-Western food.
However, the reason I rated this so low, was because of this one specific staff member (look in the photos section of this restaurant) who was very rude and aggressive towards me and my family.
This guy, when I tried to speak to him in Japanese to order at first, seemed to take our order politely, but when I pointed out that we only wanted 2 curry rices (not 3, because apparently, not said anywhere in the store, it’s an order per person), he threw his pen down and went to the kitchen to yell to the staff in Japanese that there was only meant to be 2 curry rices.
Furthermore, this guy, after changing the price to 2 curry rices, after given him my money, he threw the 1000 yen bill on the counter at me, and said nothing else.
Although the food was good, the customer service was unacceptable, and there was no verbal apology or compensation from our treatment at the Kizuna café.
At last, we scolded that staff member for his in-conduct in front of the whole store. We suspect that this particular staff member is not friendly towards foreigners or tourists.
I hope that the Kizuna café can take further action from this experience, or make sure it never...
Read moreKizuna Cafe is a small, casual restaurant serving up a combination of hearty comfort foods and sweets on their menu. The savory dishes consist largely of tonkatsu and omurice dishes.
We ordered a Demi-glace sauce cutlet on omelet rice, and an Omurice with Ketchup.
This was my second time having Omurice with Ketchup. Honestly, not a flavor I'd have chosen for myself but my daughter had chosen it the first time, and as we often try not to overeat, I ended up sharing it with her instead of having a separate order of food for myself. Well, even though it's not a flavor I'd have chosen, it turned out to be tastier than I expected and this one at Kizuna Cafe was even more enjoyable than the first place that we'd had it at.
The restaurant is located in a shopping arcade, a short walk away from the shop where they do the famous mochi pounding demonstrations. We had just finished watching the mochi pounding and were searching for lunch afterwards, which is how we ended up at this Kizuna Cafe.
A great place to get some very reasonably priced, quick and tasty...
Read moreThe omurice we had was nice, and came quick. Only 1 vegetarian option in the entire menu which is a shame. The reason as to why I would never come back here is because the restaurant is literally completely covered in black mould. I realised this halfway through eating my meal. The whole corner of the ceiling is just coated in it across the whole restaurant. The more I looked the more mould there was. I've literally never seen so much mould in my life. Being situated in Nara and the temperature being so cold there, it seems the mould has been there for ages.. so sad to see such low standards of cleanliness. Isn't it just common sense to remove mould? Especially in a facility where there's food preparation and...
