Not having a dinner at our hotel was one of the best mistakes we made - this is one of the best steak restaurants I've been to.
The service was amazing - from greeting you to the entrance, accompanying you to your seat, pouring you water all throughout the meal, being welcoming and very nice, and even accompanying you to the exit after you had finished your meal, greeting you with "arigatou gozaimashita" until you're off your way. They even helped me put my shoes with the shoe stick! (it was my first time using one 🙃). Top notch service.
The atmosphere was also amazing. Located at a historical building as a part of Nikko's temple and shrine complex, this restaurant is right near the famous red bridge you see at the end of Yasukawa-chō. The walk to the restaurant is beautiful, and the interior has a modern old japanese feel to it. You can see the kitchen from where you eat (which in my opinion is always a great sign of a restaurant).
We took the less expensive wagyu, which was one of the best steaks I've had the chance of eating. It came out right off the grill, delivering it as hot as it can be, which enabled us to enjoy the steak fully before it gets cold. I requested the steak to be medium rare, and it was cooked to medium rare perfectly.
The steak also came as a set meal, which included Yuba, rice, and a dessert, all of which were delicious.
tl;dr - one of the best memories of restaurants from my trip. Recommended,...
Read moreI came here for the grade 5 Tochigi Wagyu beef steak, and it was delicious, as expected. The course menu included soup, salad, rice, dessert, and tea. I was able to watch the steak being delicately trimmed and carefully grilled in the open kitchen. If you don't want to have the wagyu steak, the beef hamburger steak is also a wonderful and popular choice for 2000 yen (if I remember correctly).
The atmosphere was warm, relaxing, and professional at the same time. There was ample parking. You have to come down the tiny alleyway from the north side, past their secondary lot, but keep driving and you'll reach the restaurant with more parking space in front.
I saw a little path that led up to the direction of the temples and asked the staff, in which he happily grabbed a map and showed us the temples. After dinner, there was still daylight, so we left our car parked and walked straight up to the grounds. Everything was closed and very quiet. We basically had the entire place to ourselves. It was magical. But we did come back the next day when they were open, and of course...
Read moreI ate there while on a one day trip to Nikko, and it was the final point to a perfect day, not only the food was delicious, but also the service was excellent.
The place is a old traditional japanese house beautifully iluminated and decorated, with a nice garden to the side, which you can observe while having lunch, a really pleasant experience.
The food was delicious, the quality of the meat and fish was excellent and the most important part, was treated respectfully and with sense of taste, key steps to elaborate a delightful dish.
The service was far beyond from excellent, the metre took us to our table, attended us kindly and explained us some things we asked about the house, he even left us take some pictures and guided us to a nice view of the garden.
There's not too much left to say, I'd totally repeat...
