Don’t be fooled by the times listed on google - check their twitter account as we went on a Thursday evening and it was open. Being from London (which has some of the best curry houses in the world) and having been in India this time last year, I think you can definitely call me and my girlfriend curry snobs. And with that, we were still incredibly impressed with this small Osaka venue. I’ve been disappointed by the general curry scene in Japan. This place, however, does not disappoint. Small, intimate and tasty, Ghar has a limited menu but a fantastic result. I had the chicken and potato dish (Chiki Chiki) and my girlfriend had the keema dish. We went for spices level 7 and 5 respectively - both of which were good for our levels. I had a beer and she had a lassi. The total was 3400 yen - a total bargain. Osaka has lots of wonderful food, but if you like south Asian curries or want something different, this...
Read moreAfter living in Osaka for 1.5 years, this is still my favourite curry restaurant in Osaka. It's only opened at lunch time, and the menu has 5 items, including a "curry of the month". All menu items are original and delicious Japanese takes on Indian and Nepalese cuisine. It's usually queued out the door from noon, there is approximately 14 seats inside. Be forewarned the staff don't speak English and there is no English menu. But basically, being that the menu is so small it's very easy to make your selection with a single word. eg, ぎゅうビーフカレー (beef curry) = ビーフ ベジラムキーマ (Vege lamb keema) = キーマ There is a very pleasant atmosphere inside provided by a cd of xylophone music which is always on a loop. You are free to customise your spicyness from 1 to 10. My favourite dish is the "Vege Lamb Keema" at level 10 spicyness - plenty of meat and vegetables. Afterwards I recommend a stroll in the nearby...
Read moreGhar Osaka is a gem for curry enthusiasts, offering dishes that are simply out of this world. The menu may be in Japanese, but the Google translate camera feature comes in handy. I tried the lamb keema at an 8-level spice and the beef curry at a 3-level spice. As an Indonesian, these weren't overly spicy for me, but the lamb keema had a wonderfully complex taste—enhanced further by adding red pickle. The staff also provided a sweet lassi yogurt drink, perfect for soothing the stomach post-curry. The wait time on Showa day was about an hour, which is reasonable given the popularity among locals rather than tourists. Despite the wait, I highly recommend Ghar Osaka; it's well...
