Trouble finding the restaurant location? Please watch the video I posted as it may help you as it can be difficult to find.
I didn’t have any expectations whether positive or negative going into the shop but I was pleasantly surprised. All of the food I had was amazing.
Though I don’t have any other reference for kansai style okonamiyaki or takoyaki, the flavors and ingredients were really well balanced, rich and the sauces were flavorful without being overwhelming like I’ve had at one Hiroshima style restaurant.
The takoyaki was surprising in flavor for someone who has never had the dish before. I presume it is at least somewhat different than the real thing but it felt like a complete and fulfilling dish regardless rather than an imitation product. It had the flavor of ginger rather than purely salt which suprised me in addition to the garlicky sauces put on top.
The desert was also quite good though not as shockingly good as the main course, I am still happy with it.
The service was a fair bit slower than at most restaurants but the food quality and comfortable environment made up for it.
It took me about 20-30 minutes to find as it is detached from the main circular hall. I gave up the first time I visited the city but found it today. The price was on the upper side of moderate but I recommend it to those who haven’t tried Kansai cuisine as it is an experience you won’t forget.
Mostly caters to foreigners with English speaking staff and menus. I did see that half the customers were Japanese families though which was surprising given the focus on the...
Read moreI ordered here twice via UberEats and it's very sad that I cannot give a good review despite it being a rare vegan establishment in Osaka.
Takoyaki - I was very disappointed by the taste, it was basically just mashed potato balls with a piece of mushroom in the middle to imitate the octopus. Of course, it is hard to replicate authentic flavours in vegan form, but this had nothing in common with takoyaki aside from its shape. Sadly, the only flavour came from the excessive amount of sauces on top.
Karaage - The texture is quite nice, mine arrived a bit cold which made it tougher to eat. The problem, again, was the lack of flavour. It was extremely bland. For my first order I did not get any sauce to go with it and it was really dry and tasteless. For my second order, I got a special Karaage sauce, which tastes slightly sweet and acidic. I was not a fan. The reason why I reordered the karaage for a second time, was to try it with a spicy gochujang sauce I have at home. It definitely added flavour, so if you order it I'd recommend it for a nice vegan spicy karaage.
Gyoza - Unfortunately completely unenjoyable to me. Firstly, they arrived all clumped together and soggy, which leads me to believe they're frozen. If you are expecting crispy gyoza, these are not it. They were slightly fried at the bottom, some more than others, but overall tasted extremely raw. The flavour was also underwhelming and the sauce they came with was unpleasantly vinegary.
For what they are serving, it is extremely overpriced and not tasty (in my opinion). Sadly I cannot...
Read moreI don’t like posting bad reviews but I felt the need to to draw down the unreasonably high rating for this place. What comes up in other reviews (long wait, getting the orders wrong, etc.) also happened to us. The food is mediocre, which is very rare in Japan. The clientele is exclusively tourists, because no local would go here twice. If you have a gluten allergy and your options are limited, going here won’t make you sick or anything, but just please know that only thing speaking for the food here is exactly what’s in the name: it’s gluten free and vegan. The dishes are soggy, tasteless, not cooked properly; basically everything that comes up in the other bad reviews. If you are looking for a nice restaurant with cool atmosphere, an opportunity to experience Japanese cuisine and what vegan delicacies are available in Osaka - the culinary capital of Japan - this really isn’t the place. If you have severe celiac disease and are just about starving to death, sure, going here will make you full and give you a space to sit down for a bit. But if you have any other option - and I mean ANY other option for restaurant - do yourself a favor and...
