During Japan's Golden Week, we found this sushi restaurant online that still had availability. Although many reviews were outdated, the ratings seemed decent, so we decided to make a reservation. However, our experience did not meet expectations.
We arrived an hour early and asked if we could be seated sooner. The server informed us via Google Translate that a table was originally reserved for us on the second floor, but we could only sit at the counter. Once seated, we noticed that only we and two Japanese customers were at the counter.
The menu was very simple, with only three set options. We chose the 6600 yen option for 10 pieces of sushi, which was more expensive than a lunch set at a Japanese restaurant in Hong Kong. We expected the sushi to be fresh, but the quality was quite average. Only two or three pieces were somewhat fresh, while the rest were no better than what we had at izakayas in Sapporo or at Konbu Maru the day before, and those places had much more reasonable prices.
What was most disappointing was that the chef was preparing sets for us and the Japanese customers simultaneously, but their ingredients and portions were clearly superior. For instance, our soup was of poor quality, akin to instant miso soup from a supermarket, while theirs was freshly made. Even the most expensive option on the menu had fewer sushi pieces than theirs, leading us to believe that the restaurant treats Japanese customers and foreign travelers differently. This explained the comments about the restaurant being unfriendly to tourists.
When we reached the ninth piece of sushi, the chef told us it was the last one. We were puzzled, but since the quality was mediocre and we were already full from breakfast, we didn’t contest it. We wanted to sit for a bit longer before leaving, but a few minutes later, the chef noticed we weren’t leaving and, thinking we were waiting for the last piece, suddenly apologized and provided us with an additional piece. This made us suspect that he had intentionally forgotten it.
In summary, this restaurant is not very friendly to travelers, and we will not be returning. I recommend that overseas travelers ask for the Japanese menu and pay attention to the number of sushi...

Eat new dish established further the expertise of owner. Bringing out the subtle flavors of each fish and virtually eliminating the fishy profile of each dish. Can’t recommend this place any more highly. Hope to be back to to try a new...
