Very satisfied with our choice of stopping by Otaru Asahi Sushi. Very fresh fish(ignore all the negative reviews saying other wise, they don’t know what they’re talking about, they’re probably just mad that they got bad service where they were most likely walking in with a know-it-all customer is always right attitude). As a Japanese-American, I’ve visited Japan numerous times and the quality was top of the line. The Uni(sea-urchin) was to die for and the scallops as well as the raw shrimps were delicious. The Ikura(salmon eggs) were almost sweet, for it had no preservatives. Basically, everything is worth trying and I recommend everything or anything. The ambience of the restaurant is traditional and feels very heart-warming, helping us forget about the cold weather outside. The staffs were very friendly and accommodating even-though we are foreigners. Also during our visit, most of the customers were non-Japanese speakers, yet everyone of the staffs was very professional and thoughtful. They even wrapped our take-home sakes. Thank you very much for the fantastic...
Read moreThis sushi shop is a disgrace of sushi restaurants in Japan, the attitude of the staff make me feel like they are racists. When we have already sat down for over 10 minutes, they didn't even give us any tea, water, towel, but there was very few customers in restaurant, and they (not tourist) can get the service, especially there was a younger lady, always show us a dead face, like "if you can't speak Japanese, then you shouldn't come in", oddly she acted normal to local Japanese. Secondly, we ordered three sushi sets that costed about 2900jpy each, yet the sushi tasted like garbage, not even fresh, they probably have stored the fishes over one year? To the owner of this restaurant, you should put a sign with "foreigners are prohibited in this restaurant and we only serve rubbish". And, to other people, don't come, unless you want to experience a special racism lunch or dinner...
Read moreReally fresh and good quality sashimi sushi! Do order the Nishin (Herring) sashimi which is not common in other Japanese restaurant across Asia. Also, the Botan Ebi (Botan Shrimp) is so big and sweet. Must order! Price is very reasonable if compare to what you have to pay for quality sashimi and sushi in other Asia city.
There is nothing special with the cooked dishes. Also, the nori of the gunkan maki is a bit soggy but we weren't seating on the sushi counter so not entirely the restaurant fault. All in all, don't expect five star service, especially for foreigner (no English nor Chinese menu) but it will still be a happy Otaru...
