Perhaps because it's located away from the central street and canal of Otaru City, the restaurant is relatively empty and easy to use even during lunch time on holidays. The exterior of the restaurant, as well as the nameplate, is plain and blends in with the surrounding private homes, so you might pass by it without noticing it. There is also seating on the first floor, but you are generally directed to the second floor seating (if the second floor seating is full, you are directed to the first floor seating). The upstairs seating area is not staffed, and there is no bell or buzzer to call for staff, so it is safer to place your order as soon as a staff member arrives to deliver the water for service. Nevertheless, both staff members are very good at customer service, and you will never feel uncomfortable. The seating area is decorated with antique wood furnishings and paintings of ships from the 19th and 20th centuries, creating an atmosphere similar to that of a high quality ship's cabin. The food served here is a typical Western menu, such as rice with hashed meat and spaghetti, and is not presented in an eccentric manner, nor is it seasoned in a simple way. If anything, it might be better to think of the restaurant as a place to enjoy conversation and the atmosphere of the restaurant rather than the...
Read moreThe atmosphere felt like a mix of Japanese and western influence, and it was very cozy. The service was very friendly and I was able to get by with little Japanese. I tried the Beef Rice for ¥1080, which might seem expensive for Japan, but it came with salad and tea on the side. It was warm and creamy (if a little bland), and the freshness of the salad and floral taste of the tea...
Read moreA cozy restaurant opened by a very friendly old couple. Went there after being recommended by other people, and it has to be one of my favourite restaurants ever. We had the staple Hayashi rice and the carbonara, which were all fantastic. Everything was perfect, from presentation to the taste. Simply delicious! Would for certain return if I get...
