We found Pepe's Home by a lucky accident as our first choice was super busy with a long line so we tried out Pepe's and I'm so glad we did Food was all top notch, from the juicy Kaarage to the well seasoned Omurice and the edamame which were grilled and seasoned unlike anywhere else I have tried in Japan Drinks were cheap but plentiful. Local Otaru beer was available alongside some "standard" Japanese beers. The Umeshu he has was myy favourite I have had, I regret not asking for what brand it was Atmosphere was amazing. We got the table with an original famicom so you know we played it. Took a bit to get running as it is probably older than I am but once running was good fun I have been on holiday for two weeks, Pepe's home has been our favourite meal of the trip, with every other meal being compared to it and coming up short

ちょい飲みセットでぺぺちゃん家デビュー。 セット内容は以下のとおり。 １．本日のオススメ１品 ２．レギュラーセレクション１品 ３．お好きなドリンク 以上で1100円税込。今回チョイスしたのは次の三つです。 ・生ビール（550円） ・鶏ももと里芋の煮物（400円） ・フライドポテト（400円） コスパ良いですねー。飲んべえの痛いところを突きまくりでアタタタです。実に痛し嬉しなんですがオマケに美味しい…オマケは失礼ですね。美味しいということが肝心なんですが抜かりも手抜きもなし。実にアッパレです。漢字で書けば天晴れ。ハレルヤな語感が素敵です。 料理はいずれも概ねボリュームたっぷり。 ワタシ的には煮物は1.5人前ほど。フライドポテトは2人前ほど。おひとりに容赦なしのおもてなし攻撃でした。けっこう腹に来ます。 煮物はほど良く美味しく。 ほど良い塩加減で柔らかく煮染めた、ほど良く上品でほど良く素朴な一品に胃も心もほっこりです。あえて言えば田舎風でしょうが、田舎は田舎でもネットインフラ完備のコンテンポラリーなスローライフ。話せば長くなりますが、とどのつまり美味。 揚げたてさっくりのフライドポテトはトマトケチャップを添えて。イングリッシュブランチっぽいジャンキーさがダメな大人のセキュリティーポイントを的確にクラックしてきます。メタボ？ そんな言葉忘れました。 追加オーダーのホルモン唐揚げ500円税込は…ホルモンの唐揚げでした。 軽い塩味のホルモンにサクサクの衣。歯ごたえを保ったまま最後の最後でプッツリ千切れるクリック感がナイスです。もうちょっとコクと旨みがあれば素晴らしいと思うのですが、なんせホルモンですから。味付けにもうひと捻りを期待してザブトン一枚。 名前は妙ちくりんですが素敵なお店です。 味よし、値段よし、人よし。近江商人もびっくりの三方良し。ジモティからの愛もひしひしと感じました。 酔客と素面の客、どちらにも全方位外交可能な柔軟さと強かさも見え隠れたりして。柔よく剛を制するです。居酒屋界の嘉納治五郎というところでしょうか。なんのこっちゃですが。 人生に絶対必要ではないけど、なければ淋しい。なんというのか「付かず離れず」なお店ですかねー（個人の感想です）。 惜しむらくは暗いこと。照明の話ですね。カウンター回りは明るいのですが、そこから離れるに従って指数的に暗くなります。どのくらい暗いかと言えば、それはもう天体観測が出来るくらいに暗い。 カメラにとってはほぼ夜空なのですが、それでもなんとか料理の写真が撮れたのはパナソニック、ライカ、アドビの３賢者による魔法の賜です。でも、お店の中に夜空を作らないようにしていただければ嬉しいです。 ジモティの皆さん夜な夜な灯蛾…じゃなくて集う人気のお店。今度小樽を訪ねることがあったらランチもぜひ。あと、カウンターで里芋のから揚げを食べてみたいですねー。

The only shock I received was the check, how can they stay open while charging so little? No English menus so don't ask. Will definitely be back next year!

I think we went 3 times in a week, owners were very friendly and the nightly specials presented on a cork board propped on a chair were always delicious!
