Location is in a small alley and the shopfront isn’t immediately obvious. But look a little harder and you will find this gem was worth the extra effort walking up and down.
We tried EVERYTHING on the menu except for the oysters and wasabi, oysters and sesame oil, and oysters baked with cheese.
Everything else was literally SUPER good!
The raw oysters - freshly shucked, loved the briny flavour unlike the other creamier oysters we’ve eaten elsewhere, and so fresh, it feels like you’re eating it right by the sea after it was caught. And at 200 yen each, what superb value!
The fried oysters - not overly breaded, not oily, oysters were plump and not overdone despite being fried. The tartare sauce had a lovely onion-y zing to it.
Baked eggplant - done to perfection, tender yet juicy, smoky yet not burnt. The bonito flakes, ginger purée and soy sauce accentuated the flavours.
Potato salad - not overly mashed and still had a very nice bite from the potatoes. You can tell that whilst this was a a simple dish, it was well-made from the heart.
Potato baked with butter and fermented seafood - this is proper food innovation and an extremely clever combination that I will take home and try to recreate. Potatoes were cooked perfectly, then dressed with fermented seafood (similar to Ika Shiokara), then further baked in aluminium foil and served on a hot plate. So so so so good!
Scallops baked in soy sauce and butter - this was really, really good. The soy sauce and butter was well balanced and the scallops were plump and juicy after baking. Amongst all the dishes we tried, we enjoyed this the least, yet it was still really good - that is testament how good the food at this joint is.
We are coming back for an encore before we leave Sapporo. And if there is one place you must eat at in Sapporo, this is the one - you can...
Read moreI recently discovered a hidden gem of an izakaya, tucked away in a narrow alley next to a popular ramen shop with long queues. Despite its inconspicuous exterior, this izakaya surprised me with its cozy interior and, to my luck, available seating when I arrived at 7 PM.
The highlight of this restaurant is its selection of oysters sourced from Hokkaido. The prices were incredibly reasonable, with fresh raw oysters and grilled oysters priced at just 200 yen each. I decided to indulge myself and ordered eight raw oysters, four grilled oysters, two oysters cooked in sake, three oysters with wasabi, surf clam with soy sauce, grilled saffron cod, grilled scallops with butter, and French bread.
Each person is required to order at least one drink. So, my companion and I ordered two beers and a plum wine soda.
The oysters, although not large in size, were incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. Personally, I favored the grilled oysters, while my partner enjoyed the raw ones. With such a variety of dishes and drinks, we were pleasantly surprised that the bill didn't...
Read morewhere do i even begin - the food is absolutely amazing. i’m very sensitive to the taste of oysters because most of them taste like drain water. but not here. the oysters here are super plump and fresh how tf even it’s really out of this world. MUST TRY the oysters baked in cheese - if you are lactose intolerant i’m sorry man i hope you’ll be reborn again so you can try these and also the scallops wow amazing. my husband read a review online that said they will give foreigners more pieces if they order a lot and they did. the cheese baked oysters were 3 a set but when we ordered a second time they gave us 4. we also ordered some baked clams (not in photos) which apparently served as 12-15 pieces but we got 16 ✊🏻 we had a total of 15 pieces of oysters, 4 hokkaido scallops, 4 drinks, 16 pieces of baked clams and one portion of squid and the bill was only 94,000 yen whaaaaat. that would have costed me at least 300 sgd fr i highly recommend this and i guess you can tell if you’ve read till this point. only thing to note is they allow smoking here so i deducted 1* for...
