Yuki Daruma — Restaurant in Sapporo

(summer 2017) One of their associates on the street called ahead and brought me to the restaurant. It's upstairs and, like many things here, a little easy to miss, but I was incredibly glad to have been guided here. The staff were welcoming despite my inability to speak Japanese and took care of me each step of the way. The chef (and, presumably, owner) was unprecedentedly kind to me. And, though it is a bit of luck, the other customers around me were just as kind, making efforts to socialize with what few english words they spoke. Perhaps that seems anecdotal, but that kind of atmosphere is surely inspired by the gracious behavior of the chefs and servers.

Came on a Friday night at 9pm and it was absolutely busy - left at 11pm and still people coming in. They have an all you can eat for 3000 yen and all you can eat and drink for 4000 yen. The meat was good and the price is cheap. The bad thing here is you get absolutely smoked out - all our downs and coats stunk. Price and quality good... Ventilation needs...

We entered the shop at 5:50 PM. The staff said, "If you can finish within an hour from 6 PM, you won't need to wait.(I guess they had a reservation for other customers at 7 PM.)" So, we agreed. However, starting from 6:30, the staff and the owner (?) started discussing when we would leave. At that time, the meat had just been served for five minutes. Ultimately, we finished our meal, paid, and left at 6:45. The staff who initially greeted us was friendly, but the latter two were the worst, the female staff was constantly coughing. The food itself was okay but they didn't even turn on the smoke extractor. We won't come again nor recommend it to...
