As a Belgian, I travelled to Sendai specially for this pub. On Brasserie Lloyd's Instagram I had seen some peculiar Belgian beers I had never seen back home, and knew it would be worth the visit. The knowledgeable owner prepared some amazing fries for us, truly authentic, as well as some tacos and grilled chicken. But the highlight of the evening was a bottle of "Oerbier" from 2017, aged all that time in the bottle. This beer is the product of a single man, who only brews an extremely limited amount of artisanal beer. For five years he refused to have it brought to Japan, but after five years of pleading, Lloyd's bartender was able to obtain some bottles. The master Abe-san’s depth of knowledge of Belgian beer is hugely impressive, he always manages to suggest something new and delicious to suit anyone’s preference, and his selection of beers is bigger and more varied than most bars in Belgium itself. He also makes better frites than 98% of fry shops in Belgium 😂 plus all the other food is delicious too and the menu changes very often.
