Maruzen Tea Roastery — Restaurant in Shizuoka

I have to say I was skeptical of whether a modernized shop would have good tea (probably ridiculous given the area), but it was wonderful! For 870 yen I was able to get tea and a scoop of ice cream made from the same tea.

I got the 130 C asamushi sencha tea + gelato and it was delicious! The scent was amazing (take the lid off to enjoy it!) and the taste was delicious: green and lightly roasted taste to it, not overly bitter at all. It had a yellow-ish green color to the liquor. The gelato was similarly delicious with a soft and creamy texture.

They also have the tea leaves out for you to inspect, which is a good sign. I wish I went back to buy the tea I got, but I was busy the rest of the day :( Oh! Plus one of the girls there spoke fair English, so that helped.

had it on May 1st, 2025- it is currently May 25th, 2025 and clearly I'm still thinking about it 🤣 The drinks were some of the creamiest and yummiest drinks we had on our entire trip. I don't even have photos because we drank them so fast. We got an iced matcha latte & an iced hojicha latte. wish i lived in Japan so I could go back!

I ordered a set that included gelato and a drink. For the gelato, I chose one with a dark matcha flavor and another with a lighter matcha flavor.

I personally loved the dark matcha gelato. The texture was smooth, and the bitterness was just right for my taste.
